A web-based tool in Microsoft 365 that enables users to quickly create surveys, quizzes, polls, and feedback forms.
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
Based on my research, this combination of selection rules is not currently available as a built-in feature in Microsoft Forms. Although a Choice question can allow multiple answers, Forms does not provide an option to limit respondents to a maximum of three selections or make “None of the above” automatically clear and prevent the selection of other answers.
As a workaround, you could separate the choices into two questions:
- Ask whether any of the listed use cases would be valuable, with options such as Yes and None of the above.
- If the respondent selects Yes, use branching to direct them to the multiple-answer use-case question.
- If they select None of the above, branch them to the next section or the end of the form.
Microsoft Forms supports branching respondents to a later question, section, or the end of the form. However, branching cannot return respondents to an earlier question.
You can also add the instruction “Select up to three options” to the question description. However, this would only guide respondents and would not technically prevent them from selecting more than three answers.
I personally agree that having greater control over answer-selection rules would be a valuable improvement in Microsoft Forms. In particular, the ability to set a maximum number of selections and designate options such as “None of the above” as mutually exclusive would make it easier to create more flexible surveys while preventing conflicting responses.
The best way to request this capability is to submit feedback directly to Microsoft so the Microsoft Forms product team can review and evaluate the suggestion. Product enhancements are often influenced by customer feedback, so this is the most effective way to make the product team aware of the requirement. The team reviews customer suggestions when considering future features and improvements.
- Go to Microsoft Forms · Community
- Select the More form settings menu in the upper-right corner.
- Select Feedback.
- Describe the requested functionality, for example: "Add an option to limit the number of answers respondents can select in a multiple-answer Choice question, and allow designated answers such as “None of the above” to be mutually exclusive."
Product improvements are influenced by customer feedback, so submitting the suggestion is the best way to bring this requirement to the attention of the Forms product team.
After submitting your feedback, feel free to share the link here. I’d be happy to upvote it, and other users with the same requirement can support it as well, helping increase visibility across the Microsoft Q&A community.
As a fellow forum user, I do not have the ability to change or override Microsoft Forms product design or feature limitations. However, I am happy to clarify the current behavior and guide you to the appropriate feedback channel.
One small clarification: in your example, “None of the above” is Answer 7, while the final sentence refers to Answer 6.
Thank you for your time and understanding. I hope the information is helpful.
