A video editing tool developed by Microsoft, designed to make video creation easy and accessible for everyone.
No public Microsoft notice currently confirms an outage for this specific Auto compose error, so first verify that Clipchamp is signed in with a personal Microsoft account, then run a minimal-media test and submit the result to Clipchamp Support if it still fails.
1. Check which Clipchamp account is active
The Create a video with AI / Auto compose workflow documented for the Clipchamp homepage applies to personal Microsoft accounts and is not currently available in that form for work or school accounts.^1^
- Open the Clipchamp account/profile menu.
- Check the signed-in address and account type.
- If multiple Microsoft accounts are present, ensure the active Clipchamp profile is the same personal account with which Auto compose previously worked.
If this is a work or school account, contact the organization’s IT administrator. Organizational AI video creation has separate requirements: Clipchamp must be enabled by the administrator, and Copilot video creation requires an eligible Microsoft 365 plan and access to Copilot Chat.^2^
2. Run a controlled Auto compose test
Since the same failure occurs in both the Windows app and web version while manual editing and export still work, do not repeat the app-versus-browser test. Instead, isolate the Auto compose input:
- From the Clipchamp homepage, select Create a video with AI.
- Create a new test project rather than retrying the existing attempt.
- Add only two or three small, locally stored photos or short MP4 clips.
- Select Get started → Choose for me → Next.
- Choose an orientation and short duration, then wait for the preview.
Microsoft specifically recommends using fewer files or adjusting the input media when refining Auto compose. The media remains on the computer, with processing performed in the browser.^1^
Interpret the outcome as follows:
- The minimal test succeeds: one of the original media files, the quantity of media, or that particular project is triggering the failure. Add the original files back in small batches until the failing batch is identified.
- The minimal test fails: this is more consistent with an account/session or Auto compose service-side problem than with the original project. The generic
.console entry does not identify a cause.
3. Escalate with the information needed to investigate
For a personal account:
- Open the Clipchamp homepage or editor.
- Select Help (question-mark icon).
- Select Support chat.
- Report the Auto compose failure and request an account/service check.
Microsoft identifies this as the supported contact route for Clipchamp personal accounts.^3^
Include:
- Exact error: “We couldn’t create a video with AI.”
- Approximate timestamp, including time zone.
- Whether the minimal two-or-three-file test failed.
- Account type: personal or work/school—do not post the full address publicly.
- Browser name and version and Clipchamp app version.
- Screenshot of the dialog.
- Full console error text, not only
., plus any failed network request’s status code and correlation/request ID if shown. - Confirmation that manual editing/export works and that Auto compose fails in both clients.
For a work or school account, contact the organization’s help desk first; a Microsoft 365 administrator can then open an organizational support request.^3^
