Hi Microsoft Support Team,

I am facing an issue with OneDrive synchronization and would appreciate your help in understanding where I might be missing something.

Here is what happened:

I saved a file in a particular OneDrive folder using my laptop.

I opened the OneDrive app on my Android mobile, located the same file, downloaded it, made some changes, and saved it back to OneDrive.

  1. I can see the updated file in the same folder on my mobile, but when I open OneDrive on my laptop, I cannot find the file in that folder. I waited too long for and then sending this.

My question is simple: If a file saved through my laptop is visible on my mobile, why does a file saved through my mobile not appear in the same folder on my laptop?

I understand that synchronization may take some time, but I would like to know whether I am missing any steps or settings, or whether this is a synchronization issue with OneDrive.

The whole purpose of using OneDrive is to access and update the same files seamlessly across devices. I expect changes made on one device to be reflected on the other without any complicated steps.

Could you please guide me on how to resolve this issue and ensure that files remain properly synchronized between my laptop and mobile?

Thank you for your support.

Regards,

This behavior usually means the file change made on Android reached OneDrive cloud storage, but the laptop is not currently bringing that updated item into the local OneDrive view.

    Use this check path:

    1. On the laptop, check OneDrive sync status in the system tray.
      • If OneDrive shows Sync pending or Processing changes, the laptop has not finished syncing.
      • If sync appears stuck, restart OneDrive or restart the PC.
    2. On the Android device, confirm the file was saved back to the same OneDrive location.
      • In the OneDrive app, if a file with the same name already exists, OneDrive can require the file to be renamed.
      • If the file was saved with a different name, it may appear as a separate file instead of replacing the original.
    3. Check whether the laptop is syncing that folder.
      • On the laptop, right-click the OneDrive icon > Settings > Account > Choose folders.
      • Confirm the folder that contains the file is selected for sync.
    4. Check for common mobile upload/save problems.
      • If the file name or full path is too long, OneDrive may not upload it correctly. The file name and path must contain fewer than 442 characters.
      • If the file name contains restricted characters, rename it so it does not begin or end with a space, end with a period, or include these characters: / \ < > : * " ? |.
    5. On Android, refresh the app state if the mobile app is not behaving correctly.
      • Go to Settings > Applications > OneDrive > Storage.
      • Select Clear data and Clear cache.
      • Open OneDrive again.
      • This can require setting up Camera Upload and Organize new uploads again.
    6. If Android OneDrive is still unreliable, reinstall it.
      • Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > OneDrive.
      • Tap Force Stop, then Clear data and Clear cache.
      • Uninstall the app.
      • Reinstall it from Google Play.
    7. If the laptop OneDrive folder shows Sync pending but no file is visible, check for hidden files.
      • In File Explorer, go to View and enable Hidden items.
      • If no hidden file is causing the issue, create a new folder, copy the files from the affected folder into it, and delete the old Sync pending folder.

If the account is personal, technical support can be contacted from the OneDrive mobile app by opening the app and gently shaking the device. If the account is work or school, contact the organization IT helpdesk.

    Hello Kunjan Vasavda,

I understand why this is frustrating. Before trying the reset steps in the existing answer, please save a separate copy of the edited file on your phone.

Seeing the changes on Android does not yet confirm that they reached OneDrive online. On your laptop, open the OneDrive website using the same account, locate the file, and check whether its contents include your latest changes.

    • If the changes appear online but not in File Explorer, we can focus on the laptop’s sync.
    • If the online file is missing or still shows the old contents, please tell us the file type, which Android app you used to edit it, and how you saved it back to OneDrive.

Also, when you say you opened OneDrive on the laptop, do you mean the folder in File Explorer or the website?

Please avoid clearing Android app data or deleting folders until the edited copy is safely backed up.
