When I try to login to OneDrive by using my gmail account it won't let me get as far as entering the password. I'm also having issues logging in to one of my hotmail accounts because it's confusing my gmail login for hotmail

Hello,

We need to isolate two things.

What exact error message do you receive when you sign in to OneDrive with your @gmail.com (Microsoft account)?
And where are you trying to sign in with your @hotmail.com account, and is it interfering with your @gmail.com account?

Can you confirm whether you experience any issues signing in with your Microsoft accounts in a Private/incognito tab?

Start a private session in any web browser.
Go to https://onedrive.live.com/
Sign in with your Microsoft account ending in @gmail.com
See if you can sign in successfully.

Alternatively,

Open another private tab and see if you can sign in normally to your @hotmail.com account.

I’m trying to login into a Hotmail account, but it keeps directing me to my Gmail email address that relate to my office 365 subscription. I can’t follow the forgotten password link because that takes me to the Gmail email address and tries to either reset that password or login using it. I still need to access that Hotmail account so I can’t just ignore it. I’ve tried opening a window in incognito mode, but that doesn’t make any difference.

I don’t have any problem signing into my OneDrive using my Gmail account, that all works perfectly - it’s just getting to the Hotmail email that I’m having the problem with

If you are trying to reset your @hotmail.com account password using a private browsing window, you should not see your @gmail.com address there.

May I please know if the verification code is being sent to your Gmail address?

Click CTRL + SHIFT + N on any web browser to start an InPrivate/incognito session.

Paste this address: [https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx ](https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx

)

Enter your @hotmail.com email address.

Microsoft will send you a verification code to your alternate security contact email address.

Enter the verification code to reset your password successfully and sign in.

This will at least confirm that you can access your Hotmail account.

Hi, I went into that link in an incognito window and got the option to change my password by using the authenticator, but I don’t have that account in they authenticator so I chose the other option, which was my email so I use my Gmail address then I changed my password and it asked for another method of confirm confirming because I’d set up 2FA and again it was a case of the authenticator or another, which was my mobile so I chose that and got a code then thought great. This is worked and on my screen I got two messages then pop up from the Authenticator saying that my password has been changed for the Microsoft account with my Gmail address, then the second message saying the new app passwords are needed for my Gmail account due to password changes. I haven’t answered that because I don’t want to change my Gmail email address.

Hello,

It appears there may be some confusion between your @gmail.com (Google) address and your @hotmail.com (Microsoft) account.

Have you previously used your Gmail address to create a separate Microsoft account?

I ask because you mentioned that you are trying to sign in to OneDrive using your Gmail address. If you have registered your Gmail address as a Microsoft account, you can use it to sign in to OneDrive. Otherwise, just use your Hotmail.com address to sign in.

Based on what you described earlier, you were able to reset the password for your Hotmail account using your Gmail address as a verification method. However, using Gmail as a recovery email address does not automatically make it a separate Microsoft account.

Note:

If you have registered your Gmail address as a Microsoft account as well, you would have two separate Microsoft accounts (one associated with your @hotmail.com address and another with your @gmail.com address), in addition to your Google account.

Also, changing the @hotmail.com account password does not require you to change the Gmail account password. Note that these are two separate accounts from different email providers.

Hi, yes my Gmail account is used as my login for my Microsoft 365 account but as I said above, when I change my password for my hotmail account it says I need to change my password for my Gmail account and I don’t understand why or what to do about it

Have you added your Gmail address as an alias to your Hotmail Microsoft account?

Open an InPrivate Window.

Copy and paste this link into the address bar: https://account.live.com/names/manage

Use your @hotmail.com email address and password to sign in.

Do you see your @hotmail.com as (Primary) and @gmail.com under the 'Account Username' section?
