I’m facing a recurring issue with MS Teams in MacBook, where I keep getting logged out of a few client accounts within an hour or so. Since this happens without my realizing it, I end up missing client messages, resulting in delayed responses and potential communication gaps.

    Hi @Sanjeet Kumar Sharma

I understand how frustrating it can be to miss important client messages because some Teams accounts keep signing out unexpectedly.

You mentioned that the problem is still occurring. To help narrow down the cause, could you please clarify the following?

-Does the same issue occur when you use Microsoft Teams on the web?

-When the issue occurs, does Teams prompt you to sign in again, or does the affected account simply disappear from the Teams account list?

-Which version of Microsoft Teams are you using, and which macOS version is installed on your MacBook?

-Did these accounts work normally before, or has this issue been occurring since you first added them?

-Have you already tried updating Teams to the latest available version and clearing the Teams cache on your Mac?

If the same behavior also occurs in Teams on the web, it may indicate that the issue is related to the affected organization's authentication or session policies rather than the Teams desktop client. In that case, you may want to contact the IT administrator of the affected client organization and ask them to review the Microsoft Entra sign-in logs and any Conditional Access policies that apply to your account, including sign-in frequency settings.

For more information, see Conditional Access adaptive session lifetime policies - Microsoft Entra ID | Microsoft Learn

Thank you for your cooperation and patience.

Test one affected client account in Teams on the web alongside the Mac app: if both sessions require authentication after roughly one hour, the client organization’s administrator should review its Microsoft Entra session policies; if only the desktop app signs out, reset the new Teams cache on the Mac.

    1. Determine whether the issue follows the account or the Mac app

    1. Sign in to one affected client account in a private browser window while keeping the same account open in the Teams desktop app.
    2. Note the start time and observe both sessions for longer than the usual one-hour interval.
    3. Record exactly what happens:
      • Both web and desktop require sign-in again: likely an account/tenant authentication-policy issue.
      • Only the desktop app loses the account: proceed with the local client reset below.
      • The account disappears without any sign-in prompt or error: collect logs immediately before resetting anything.

Microsoft documents that modern authentication should normally avoid repeated credential prompts on the same Mac. Sign-in behavior can nevertheless vary with each organization’s authentication and MFA configuration.^1^

    2. If it happens in both web and desktop Teams

Ask each affected client’s Microsoft 365/Entra administrator to review the sign-in records and Conditional Access policies for your account at the incident time. A Sign-in frequency session control can require periodic reauthentication, including a period expressed in hours; the Teams web client follows this setting.^2^

    Send the administrator:

    • Your affected account name.
    • Exact local time and time zone of the sign-out.
    • Whether it also occurred in Teams web.
    • Any status code displayed on the sign-in screen.
    • Whether only their organization’s account is affected.

If an error code appears, preserve it. Microsoft recommends giving that code to the organization’s IT administrator because many account- or tenant-level sign-in problems cannot be corrected from the client device.^3^

    3. If only the Mac desktop app is affected

First collect logs, because clearing the cache deletes diagnostic data that may be needed to identify the problem. In Teams, select Help → Collect support files, or press Option+Command+Shift+1. Wait for the download banner to disappear; the files are saved in Downloads and include diagnostic information for all accounts currently signed in.^4^

Then reset the new Teams cache:

    1. Quit Teams completely with Command+Q.
    2. Open Finder → Applications → Utilities → Terminal.
    3. Run:
    rm -rf ~/Library/Group\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams
    rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2

    1. Start Teams and add the accounts again.

Caution: these commands permanently delete local Teams cache and configuration data; they do not move it to Trash. They are Microsoft’s documented cache-reset commands for new Teams on macOS.^5^

If stale credentials remain, open Finder → Applications → Utilities → Keychain Access, locate the affected account, right-click it, and select Delete [account name]. Removing an account from macOS can also affect account access in other applications, because operating systems share accounts between apps for single sign-on.^6^

    Avoid missed messages during diagnosis

For each client account, keep its Teams web session open in a separate browser profile and enable macOS notifications under System Settings → Notifications → Microsoft Teams → Allow Notifications.^7^

If the problem continues after the cache reset, provide the captured logs, incident timestamps, affected tenant/account, and any status code to the relevant client administrator or Microsoft Support.
