Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
This is the normal GitHub-to-Microsoft account-linking page; select Next only if you want Microsoft to create a personal Microsoft account using the displayed Gmail address and link GitHub as a sign-in method.
Microsoft checks the email addresses associated with your GitHub account:
- If one matches an existing personal Microsoft account, GitHub is added as a sign-in method for that account.
- If no matching Microsoft account exists, selecting Next creates one and links it to your GitHub credentials.
- If it matches a work or school account, you may instead be prompted to sign in to that organizational account. ^1^
After linking, you can use Sign-in options → Sign in with GitHub, or enter the linked Gmail address and be redirected to GitHub. The Microsoft and GitHub accounts remain separate; linking them does not give Microsoft access to your GitHub repositories. Repository access requires separate permission. ^1^
This process creates a personal Microsoft account. It does not by itself create a Microsoft 365 subscription, transfer billing, or create a work/school account. Personal Microsoft accounts are used for consumer services such as Microsoft 365, Outlook.com, and Xbox; organizational accounts are issued by a school or employer. ^2^
If you did not intend to create or link a Microsoft account, do not select Next—return to the previous page or close the sign-in window.
