Hello,

I had forgotten my password but after entering in a code from Microsoft Authenticator, I was able to log in to my Hotmail account.

But the same day, my Hotmail account got locked, so every time I try to sign in it says, “your account has been locked”. I have filled out a reinstatement form and have received an email asking to fill out some information, and I have filled it out and sent a response.. but however after that I have not received any email yet… please help me with unlocking my account!

Thank you!

Your reinstatement request is already in the correct review process, so do not submit another form while it is pending because duplicate requests may slow Microsoft’s response.^1^

    What to do now

    1. Monitor the contact email address entered on the reinstatement form, including its Junk/Spam folders. The Microsoft Online Safety team will send its decision or request for more information there—not necessarily to the locked Hotmail inbox.^1^
    2. Allow 48–72 hours from your latest response for review. Similar locked-account cases advise checking all folders after that period.^2^
    3. Do not send another reinstatement request while waiting. Microsoft specifically warns that additional requests can delay the review.^1^
    4. If more than 72 hours have passed with no message, contact Microsoft Support through the Contact Us page:
      • Select Windows.
      • Select Get Home support.
      • Describe the issue as: Microsoft account locked; reinstatement form submitted and additional information supplied; no response received.
      • Select Get Help, then Contact Support if offered.^3^

Support can help check the appropriate route, but account access or account-detail changes can only be handled through the reinstatement process. Public Q&A participants cannot inspect or unlock the account.^1^

The account recovery form is a different process and is intended for proving account ownership when credentials cannot be recovered. Because your current sign-in message specifically says the account is locked and you have already submitted the reinstatement form, do not switch to the recovery form unless Microsoft first unlocks the account and you then remain unable to sign in.^4^

Sorry to hear you're having trouble.

As well as the information already provided please be sure to keep an eye on your email including the junk/spam folder in case the reply goes there.
