    Hi!

It could be a cache or authentication error in your browser. Try accessing OneDrive using a different browser—such as Edge, Chrome, or Firefox—to check if that resolves it.

If the issue persists in another browser, please use the Sign-In Helper to see if your account might have been blocked for any reason.

Open OneDrive in an InPrivate/Incognito window and sign in with the exact personal Microsoft account shown in the error; if files, creation, and Manage storage still fail there, treat this as an account/service issue rather than resetting the OneDrive desktop app.^1^

    1. Test outside the current browser session

    1. Close the current OneDrive tab.
    2. Open an InPrivate/Incognito window.
    3. Go to https://onedrive.live.com.
    4. Sign in by entering the affected Gmail address manually. A Gmail address can be the username of a personal Microsoft account.
    5. Try:
      • Opening an existing file.
      • Creating a blank document.
      • Opening Settings → OneDrive settings → More settings → Storage metrics/Manage storage.

If this works, sign out of all Microsoft accounts in the normal browser, clear cookies for Microsoft and OneDrive sites, disable privacy/content-blocking extensions temporarily, and sign in again. Browser-session and rendering problems can produce Unknown render failure.^2^

    2. Check the account’s storage and subscription directly

Because OneDrive’s own Manage storage page is failing, bypass it:

    1. Open https://account.microsoft.com/storage.
    2. Confirm that the displayed account is the same Gmail-address Microsoft account.
    3. Then open https://account.microsoft.com/services and verify that any expected Microsoft 365 subscription is active.^1^

If the account is over quota, OneDrive prevents uploading, editing, syncing, and creating files; existing files become read-only.^3^

    In that case:

    1. Delete unneeded files and empty the OneDrive Recycle Bin, or purchase sufficient storage.
    2. Allow up to 24 hours for the corrected quota to apply.
    3. If OneDrive explicitly reports Account frozen, getting below quota is the documented recovery action. If it remains frozen after 48 hours, contact Microsoft Support.^4^

A freeze is only likely here if the account or shared subscription has remained over quota for three months, or the account was unused for a long time; the human-verification prompt alone does not establish that the account is frozen.^4^

    3. Distinguish an account issue from a current service incident

Check Microsoft’s public service-health page for a current OneDrive or Microsoft 365 incident.^5^

Also test the same account on another device or network. Interpret the result as follows:

    • Works elsewhere: likely a browser session, extension, VPN, firewall, or network issue on the original device.
    • Fails everywhere for this account: likely account-side or service-side; local OneDrive reset/reinstallation is unlikely to repair the web failure.
    • Microsoft reports an incident: avoid changing or deleting local configuration and wait for the incident to be resolved.

There is no confirmed public OneDrive Personal incident in the available service-status information for this exact error, so the screenshots alone cannot distinguish an account fault from an unreported service problem.

    4. Escalate with the correlation details

If the same failure occurs in a private window and on another device/network while storage and subscription are valid, contact Microsoft Support through the Contact Microsoft Support → Get Help option on the OneDrive support page.^6^

    Provide:

    • The complete correlation ID shown under View technical details.
    • The exact UTC date and time displayed with it.
    • The affected Microsoft-account username, entered privately in the support case.
    • Screenshots of both You can’t access this item and Unknown render failure.
    • Confirmation that existing files, new-file creation, and Manage Storage all fail.
    • Results from the InPrivate window, second device/network, storage, and subscription tests.

Do not post the correlation ID, user ID, or account address publicly. The correlation ID and timestamp allow support to locate the corresponding server-side request.
