A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
If fewer than 24 hours have passed since security-code verification, allow that unblock period to finish; if 24 hours have already passed, check the account status and escalate the continuing OneDrive authorization failure to Microsoft Support.
1. Complete the documented reactivation check
- Open the Microsoft services account reset page from Microsoft’s reactivation article.
- Sign in with the same personal Microsoft account that owns the files.
- Follow any remaining account-status or reactivation prompts.
- Allow up to 24 hours from the security-code verification for the block to be removed. Microsoft specifically documents this delay after account verification or extensive file sharing.^1^
Since Incognito mode already produces the same “Unknown render failure—attempted to perform an unauthorised operation” message, there is no value in repeating that browser test. The failure of existing sharing links is also consistent with access not yet being restored at the account/OneDrive level.
2. Escalate if the 24-hour period has passed
Use Contact Microsoft Support under Personal accounts → Technical support in the same reactivation article. Enter a description such as:
Personal OneDrive remains inaccessible more than 24 hours after security-code verification. OneDrive opens but displays no files or folders and reports “Unknown render failure—attempted to perform an unauthorised operation.” Existing sharing links also fail.
Include:
- The approximate time the security-code verification was completed.
- A screenshot of the complete error.
- Any correlation ID, request ID, date, or timestamp shown with it.
- Confirmation that this is a personal Microsoft account.
- Confirmation that the problem also occurs in an Incognito window.
- Whether the OneDrive mobile or desktop app can display the files.
For personal accounts, Microsoft directs unresolved blocked-account and OneDrive access problems to its account or technical-support paths.^1^ The “Unknown render failure” message is not listed as a standard documented OneDrive error code, so Support may need to investigate the account state.^2^
Protect any locally available project files
While access is being restored:
- If any files still open from the synchronized OneDrive folder, copy them to a new folder outside OneDrive or to an external drive.
- Do not delete the local OneDrive folder, unlink the account, or reinstall/reset the sync client until those available copies are secured.
- Do not repeatedly edit unavailable placeholders; wait until the account is accessible or work from a confirmed local copy.
An empty web view by itself does not establish that the files were deleted. OneDrive provides recovery mechanisms for accidental deletion or unwanted changes, including the recycle bin, version history, and—where eligible—restoring OneDrive to an earlier point.^3^
Conditional check: storage freeze
Only pursue this branch if OneDrive explicitly shows “Account frozen” or indicates that storage is over quota. A frozen OneDrive account has a distinct message and can result from remaining over the storage allowance; getting under quota can take up to 24 hours to apply, with Support recommended if it remains frozen after 48 hours.^4^
Your reported unauthorized-operation error does not by itself establish a storage freeze.
