Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Apps page with your school account and select Install apps → Microsoft 365 apps; if that option is absent, try the direct Software page and then ask your school’s Microsoft 365 administrator to enable your assigned license and installation access.
Install Word on Windows
- Open https://m365.cloud.microsoft/apps.
- Sign in with your school account, not a personal Microsoft account.
- Select Install apps in the upper-right corner.
- Select Microsoft 365 apps. This downloads the installer containing Word and the other apps included in your subscription.
- Open the downloaded
OfficeSetup.exe. - If Windows asks whether the installer can make changes, select Yes. You need administrator rights on the PC.
- Wait for “You’re all set! Office is installed now.”
- Open Start, search for Word, and launch it. Sign in with the same school account if activation is requested. ^1^
Your Microsoft 365 Education A3 plan normally includes Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise, which contains the desktop Office applications. ^2^
If “Install apps” is missing
Go directly to the Microsoft 365 Software page while signed in with the school account. Choose the language and 32-bit or 64-bit version, and then select Install. ^1^
If the direct page also has no Install button, contact your school’s IT help desk or Microsoft 365 administrator and ask them to check:
- Whether the A3 license that includes desktop apps is actually assigned to your user account.
- Whether self-service Office installation is enabled for students.
- Whether the school manages installation itself and must install Office on your device.
Administrators can remove the Install button by disabling Office downloads. Users also require an assigned license and local administrator rights to install the software. ^3^
If the button exists but clicking it does nothing, open a new InPrivate/Incognito browser window, sign in again at the Apps page, and retry Install apps. ^4^
