On October 22, I received a software update notification while working in Excel and subsequently updated the application to version 16.114.1. Following this update, Microsoft deactivated my license, preventing file editing and saving. Although I am aware that Office 2021 support ended on October 13, I received two subsequent updates—version 16.114 on October 14 and version 16.114.1 on October 22. My license status remains “Not Active” despite signing out and signing back in. It appears the latest update is compelling an upgrade to Microsoft 365, which I do not wish to adopt.
Please help restore my activation of my existing perpetual Office 2021 license without requiring a Microsoft 365 subscription.

Please uninstall your Office apps.

Then install this slightly older version 16.114: https://res.public.onecdn.static.microsoft/mro1cdnstorage/C1297A47-86C4-4C1F-97FA-950631F94777/MacAutoupdate/Microsoft_365_and_Office_16.114.26101123_BusinessPro_Installer.pkg?atp=ets

Or 16.113 version: https://res.public.onecdn.static.microsoft/mro1cdnstorage/C1297A47-86C4-4C1F-97FA-950631F94777/MacAutoupdate/Microsoft_365_and_Office_16.113.26100421_Installer.pkg?atp=ets

After that, open any Office app, such as Word or Excel. From the top menu, select Help > Check for Updates. When Microsoft AutoUpdate opens, uncheck Automatically keep Microsoft apps up to date, then confirm by clicking Turn Off.

That should work.
