Edge sidebar M365 Copilot shows empty Chats list, but full tab and phone show history

Edge version 155.0.4283.62 (64-bit), Windows 11, work account.

About 1 week ago, the Microsoft 365 Copilot sidebar in Edge stopped showing my chat history. The Chats list is empty after restarting the PC, and opening an old chat shows "Something went wrong".

My history is NOT lost: the same account shows all chats correctly in a full tab (m365.cloud.microsoft/chat) and on my phone. Only the Edge sidebar is affected.

What I tried:

  • Restarted Edge and the PC
  • Reloaded the sidebar panel
  • Cleared the m365.cloud.microsoft cookies
  • Turned the sidebar off and on
  • Turned off energy saver and sleeping tabs
  • Repaired Edge from Windows Settings
  • edge://policy shows no Copilot or sidebar policy

I also sent feedback through Edge (Alt + Shift + I). Has anyone found a fix?

    Hi Si Kosal,

As a next step, you can check the sidebar's developer console for a more specific loading error:

    1. Open Copilot in the Edge sidebar.
    2. Press F12 and check Console and Network while reproducing the issue.
    3. Look for failed requests or errors that appear when Chats is opened or an older conversation is selected.

For now, continuing to use m365.cloud.microsoft/chat is the practical workaround since your history remains accessible there.

Microsoft confirms that Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat is supported in the Edge sidebar when Edge is signed in with a Microsoft Entra work or school account (link reference: Copilot Chat in Edge). The additional error details may therefore help narrow down why only the sidebar experience is failing.

Create a new Edge profile with the same work account; if Copilot history loads there, reset the original profile’s settings, and if it fails there too, escalate through your Microsoft 365 administrator.

    1. Test a clean Edge profile

This is the most useful remaining test because the history works in the full tab and on mobile, while restart, repair, cookies, sidebar settings, and relevant policies have already been ruled out.

    1. In Edge, select the profile icon.
    2. Select Add profile → Add.
    3. Sign in with the same work account.
    4. Open the Microsoft 365 Copilot sidebar.
    5. Check whether Chats populates and an existing conversation opens.

Microsoft’s Edge guidance uses a new profile to distinguish profile-local corruption or conflicting settings from account/service problems.^1^

    2. If the new profile works

The original Edge profile has a local state or authentication-context problem.

Use the safer reset before removing the profile:

    1. In the original profile, open edge://settings/reset.
    2. Select Restore settings to their default values.
    3. Restart Edge and test the sidebar again.

This resets the startup page, new-tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs; disables extensions; and clears temporary data such as cookies. It does not remove favorites, history, or saved passwords.^1^

If resetting does not help, either continue using the new profile or remove and recreate the original profile. Before removing it, verify that required favorites and passwords are synchronized, because unsynchronized local profile data can be deleted.^2^

    3. If the new profile also fails

Treat this as a sidebar authentication, endpoint, or tenant-service issue rather than damaged chat history.

    1. Refresh the Edge authentication context: sign out of the Edge profile, sign back in with the work account, and reopen the sidebar. Microsoft documents that sidebar sign-in or retry failures occur when Edge cannot obtain a valid authentication token for the profile.^3^
    2. Ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to check Microsoft 365 admin center → Health → Service health for a Copilot or Microsoft 365 advisory.
    3. If no advisory applies, have the administrator open a service request under Help & support. Work-account Copilot issues that persist across profiles require tenant-side investigation.^4^

    Include:

    • Exact Edge version: 155.0.4283.62
    • Windows version from Settings → System → About
    • Approximate date and time the problem began
    • Screenshot of the empty Chats list and error
    • Export from edge://policy
    • Screenshot of edge://settings/appearance/copilotAndSidebar
    • Result of the new-profile test
    • The fact that the same work account’s history works in a full tab and on mobile

Microsoft specifically recommends collecting the Edge version, policies, sidebar settings, account type, and OS version for support escalation.^1^

    Version status

Microsoft’s current Edge known-issues page does not list an empty Microsoft 365 Copilot Chats list as a tracked Edge 155 issue. The listed version 155 issue concerns some existing profiles being unable to launch Edge, which does not match this symptom.^5^

Your version is also newer than the minimum 146.0.3856.117 required for Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat in the sidebar. Since edge://policy shows no sidebar blocking policy, the Edge 146+ internal-URL allow-list fix does not apply here.^5^

Continue using the full-tab experience while the sidebar is investigated; the cross-device result indicates that the conversations remain available to the account.
