Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Hello @Karishan Sivakumar
I understand that you would like to use Copilot directly in the Excel desktop application for your academic work, but you are receiving a message indicating that Copilot Chat has been turned off for your organization.
Please note that Copilot availability depends on your Microsoft 365 license and your college's organizational settings.
To help narrow down the issue, could you please confirm the following?
- Which Microsoft 365 subscription is assigned to your student account? You can check this by signing in to your Microsoft account and reviewing your subscription details.
- Are you using the Excel desktop application on Windows or Mac, and is it up to date?
- Can you access Microsoft Copilot Chat through your browser using your student account, or is access blocked there as well?
If Copilot Chat has been disabled by your college's Microsoft 365 administrator, you may need to contact the college's IT department to verify the tenant settings and your account's eligibility.
For Copilot in Excel, please also verify that your assigned license supports the required features. Having access to Copilot Chat does not necessarily include all Copilot functionality within Excel.
You can review Microsoft's official guidance here:

- Manage Microsoft Copilot Chat: Manage Microsoft Copilot Chat
Regarding free student benefits, Microsoft offers certain AI features at no additional cost to eligible education users, and discounted student subscriptions may also be available. However, eligibility for Copilot in Excel depends on the specific plan and account configuration.
Once you confirm your license and where the message appears, we can better determine the appropriate next steps.
