Plug the mouse’s small USB receiver into the laptop because this type of wireless mouse uses the receiver—not Bluetooth—and therefore will not appear in the Bluetooth device list.^1^
Connect the mouse
- Insert fresh batteries, removing any protective battery tab.
- Switch the mouse On using the switch underneath it.
- Plug its USB receiver directly into a USB port on the laptop rather than into a USB hub.
- Wait several seconds while Windows detects it automatically.
- Move the mouse and check whether the pointer moves.
No Windows Bluetooth pairing is needed.
If the pointer does not move
- Unplug the receiver, wait about 10 seconds, and reconnect it.
- Try a different USB port.
- If the mouse or receiver has a Reset/Connect button, press it.
- Restart the laptop while leaving the receiver connected.
- Test the mouse and its receiver on another computer. If they also fail there, the batteries, mouse, or receiver may need replacement. Microsoft documents these checks for USB wireless input devices.^2^
Keep the receiver that came with the mouse: wireless receivers are not necessarily interchangeable with receivers from other mice.
