    Welcome Barbara Smith,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand you are unable to pair your mouse with your laptop.

Does your mouse have a Bluetooth pairing button or Bluetooth symbol underneath it? When you try to pair it, does the mouse appear under available Bluetooth devices in Windows?

In the meantime, you can try these steps:

1, Remove any existing entry for the mouse

    • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices
    • If the mouse is listed, select the three dots next to it and choose Remove device
    • Select Add device and try adding the mouse again

2, Update the Bluetooth adapter driver

    • Right-click Start and select Device Manager
    • Expand Bluetooth
    • Right-click your Bluetooth adapter and select Update driver
    • Select Search automatically for drivers and follow the prompts

3, If updating the driver does not help, reinstall the Bluetooth adapter

    • Open Device Manager and expand Bluetooth
    • Right-click the Bluetooth adapter and select Uninstall device
    • Restart the laptop. Windows should attempt to reinstall the driver automatically

    Looking forward to your update.

Make sure your mouse has enough battery and is turned on. Plug in the USB dongle that came with your wireless mouse, then turn on Bluetooth on your computer. Can you find your mouse's name in the list of available devices?

If not, to isolate the issue, try connecting your wireless mouse to a different computer. Does it work?

What is the exact make and model of your computer?

Plug the mouse’s small USB receiver into the laptop because this type of wireless mouse uses the receiver—not Bluetooth—and therefore will not appear in the Bluetooth device list.^1^

    Connect the mouse

    1. Insert fresh batteries, removing any protective battery tab.
    2. Switch the mouse On using the switch underneath it.
    3. Plug its USB receiver directly into a USB port on the laptop rather than into a USB hub.
    4. Wait several seconds while Windows detects it automatically.
    5. Move the mouse and check whether the pointer moves.

No Windows Bluetooth pairing is needed.

If the pointer does not move

    1. Unplug the receiver, wait about 10 seconds, and reconnect it.
    2. Try a different USB port.
    3. If the mouse or receiver has a Reset/Connect button, press it.
    4. Restart the laptop while leaving the receiver connected.
    5. Test the mouse and its receiver on another computer. If they also fail there, the batteries, mouse, or receiver may need replacement. Microsoft documents these checks for USB wireless input devices.^2^

Keep the receiver that came with the mouse: wireless receivers are not necessarily interchangeable with receivers from other mice.
