Remove the saved Microsoft/Office credentials first, because the same 7q6ca/1067 sign-in error accompanied by broken desktop Search has been resolved through refreshing Windows credential state.^1^

    1. Clear cached Microsoft credentials

    Because Search is unavailable:

    1. Press Windows key + R.
    2. Enter control and press Enter.
    3. Open User Accounts > Credential Manager > Windows Credentials.
    4. Expand and remove entries associated with:
      • MicrosoftOffice
      • MicrosoftAccount
      • Old Microsoft work/school accounts that you no longer use
    5. Restart Windows.
    6. Open one Microsoft 365 application and sign in again.

Removing credentials signs Microsoft applications out, but it does not delete cloud files.

If an obsolete account is still connected, open Settings > Accounts directly with Windows key + I:

    • Under Email & accounts, remove unused accounts from Accounts used by other apps.
    • For a work or school account, check Access work or school and disconnect it only if it no longer belongs on this PC.
    • Restart and add the correct account again.^2^

    2. Run the Microsoft 365 sign-in troubleshooter

    On Windows 10 or later:

    1. Open the Get Help application from the Start menu.
    2. Enter sign in to Microsoft Office.
    3. Follow the prompts and apply any recommended repair.

Microsoft provides this troubleshooter specifically for Microsoft 365 sign-in failures.^3^

If Get Help cannot open because of the broader Windows problem, continue below.

    3. Repair Windows components

The simultaneous failure of Windows Search means this may extend beyond Office. Open an administrator terminal without using Search:

    1. Press Windows key + X.
    2. Select Terminal (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
    3. Run DISM first, wait for it to complete, and then run SFC:
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
    sfc /scannow

Do not close the window until SFC reaches 100%. DISM supplies repair files, while SFC checks and replaces damaged protected Windows files.^4^

Restart the computer, then test both Search and Microsoft sign-in.

    4. Repair Windows Search separately if necessary

The sign-in error and Search failure should not be assumed to have one cause. If sign-in starts working but Search remains unresponsive:

    1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    2. Select Details.
    3. End:
      • SearchHost.exe on Windows 11, or
      • SearchUI.exe on Windows 10.
    4. Try Search again; Windows should restart the process automatically.

If that fails, Microsoft’s documented next step for Windows 11 or Windows 10 version 1903 and later is the Reset Windows Search PowerShell script. It requires administrator permission and does not affect personal files, although result relevance may be temporarily reduced while Search recovers.^5^

    5. If only Office applications still fail

    Repair the full Office installation:

    1. Press Windows key + R.
    2. Enter appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
    3. Select Microsoft 365 or Office > Change.
    4. Choose Online Repair > Repair.

Online Repair is more comprehensive than Quick Repair.^6^

    6. Determine whether the account or PC is affected

Try the same account in a browser’s private window, preferably from another device:

    • Works elsewhere: the problem is localized to this Windows installation or profile.
    • Fails on every device and browser: contact Microsoft Support or, for a work/school account, the Microsoft 365 administrator.

Provide the Correlation ID, timestamp, tag, and code exactly as displayed. The correlation ID is tracing information for support rather than a standalone diagnostic code.^7^

    Hi, let me help you.

Please go to Settings, Accounts, Access work or School, remove the account that is having an issue, and then restart the machine. After the reboot, open any Microsoft Office application and then try signing back in with your Microsoft Account.
