Sole Microsoft 365 tenant owner has lost Global Admin access and cannot open a support ticket

I am the sole owner of a Microsoft 365 business tenant and the associated custom domain. There are no other users or administrators who can restore my administrator permissions.

I can sign in successfully with my existing account, but Microsoft 365 no longer recognises the account as an administrator. When I try to access administrative functions, I am told that the account does not have administrator privileges.

I have tried the internal admin takeover process through Power BI, but the takeover wizard does not complete/offer the takeover.

I have also tried to open a Microsoft support case. The support request fails with:

“httpsupportworker.request internal error create ticket 400”

If I use the Microsoft online support route, it tells me to contact my administrator so that the administrator can contact Microsoft. This is impossible because I am the sole owner and there is no other administrator.

I have also tried both published UK Microsoft support telephone numbers, but the automated system will not transfer me to a support representative.

The Microsoft 365 subscription may have lapsed, which might be relevant, but I can still authenticate to the account.

I need Microsoft to help recover Global Administrator access to the existing tenant. I can prove ownership/control of the custom domain, including through DNS verification if required.

Does anyone know the correct Microsoft escalation route for a tenant with no accessible Global Administrator, where the normal support-ticket system itself requires administrator privileges?

Please note that this forum is not Microsoft support, this is a user-to-user support forum. Therefore, I cannot directly escalate this for you. However, I can guide you how to contact Data Protection team.

    Hi @Alex Baker

In this situation, you will need to contact Data Protection team. They can help you regain access to your tenant.

I know you have tried the phone support, please try again with the script below. Please visit the following page and reach out to phone number via: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support

From what I know, you will need to get past the initial AI system to reach the live support team. You can refer to the guide below for tips on how to get through more easily:User's image

If you have tried phone support and it's not working, please follow this link to create a trial tenant: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/business/microsoft-365-business-basic?msockid=3eb6980b5c6860e63a588d0c5d1761d6 - after that you will be able to access to Microsoft 365 Admin Center to raise the ticket

Assuming that you have already created an account after registering a free trial and you can go to Microsoft 365 admin center and click "Help & support" icon to raise your ticket.

Please mention that you are raising ticket on behalf of the affected tenant that you do not have access to.

On the other hand, if you do create the trial and it resolves the issue, please remember to cancel the subscription afterward to avoid any related charges.
