Hello,

Microsoft recently attempted to charge my payment method for a Microsoft 365 subscription. The transaction was declined because there were insufficient funds in the account.I believe this billing attempt requires review. I have evidence of the attempted transaction, including screenshots and bank notifications.

Please confirm:

Why this charge was attempted.Whether my subscription is still active.

How to prevent any further billing attempts.I can provide supporting evidence upon request.

Thank you.

A declined Microsoft 365 charge is commonly caused by a subscription payment retry after an earlier payment could not be collected. Microsoft may keep trying until the payment succeeds, which can make charges appear close together.

To check why the charge was attempted:

    1. Go to the Services & subscriptions page.
    2. Sign in with the Microsoft account used for the subscription.
    3. Review the Microsoft 365 subscription status.
    4. Go to the Payment options page and check whether the payment method shows an error.
    5. Review order history for recent Microsoft 365 charges and compare them with the bank notifications.
    6. If the charge is not clear, go to the Manage your payments page and select Investigate.

To check whether the subscription is still active:

    1. Close all Office apps.
    2. Open Services & subscriptions.
    3. Check the details under Microsoft 365.
    4. If the subscription is expired, renew it there.

    To prevent further billing attempts:

    1. Update the payment method on the Payment options page if the current card has an error.
    2. If the issue is insufficient funds, ensure the account has enough funds before the next retry.
    3. If the charge is unrecognized or the card may be compromised, contact the bank or payment provider immediately to stop further charges.
    4. If the subscription was purchased through a mobile app, manage it in Apple ID settings on iPhone/iPad or in Google Play on Android, because those subscriptions are billed through the app store account.

If Office shows “ACCOUNT NOTICE. We've run into a problem with your Microsoft 365 subscription and need your help to fix it.”, that is often triggered by a payment problem such as an expired, cancelled, or declined card.

If the charge still cannot be identified after checking the account pages, use Contact Microsoft Support and select Get Help, then Contact Support.
