Data Protection Domain Release

Hi Microsoft Support Team,

I'm reaching out as a Microsoft 365 Premium subscriber who urgently needs assistance with a domain‑related mailbox issue that I have been unable to resolve through normal support channels. I have attempted multiple phone numbers listed for Microsoft 365 Business Support, but I have not been able to reach an agent or get a callback.

My issue is as follows:

  • My domain is currently stuck in an inaccessible Microsoft 365 tenant.

I cannot sign in to the tenant and I do not know the admin account associated with it.

The domain appears to be locked inside a “ghost tenant,” likely created during a previous GoDaddy‑managed Microsoft 365 setup.

GoDaddy no longer manages the Microsoft 365 subscription for this domain, so they cannot assist.

I am unable to open a support ticket because the system requires admin login, which I do not have.

I am requesting a Data Protection domain release so that I can:

Prove ownership of the domain via DNS TXT record

Have the domain removed from the inaccessible tenant

Reassign the domain to my active Microsoft 365 subscription

This is preventing me from setting up email services for my business, and I would appreciate escalation to the appropriate Data Protection or Tenant Recovery team.

Please advise on the next steps and confirm the best way for me to provide domain ownership verification.

Thank you for your assistance.

Regards,

    Dear DESMOND,

As a forum moderator, I genuinely wish I could directly access your account or delve into the backend systems to diagnose and fix this for you. Unfortunately, my role here is limited to providing general guidance and solutions that can be applied by users. I am not able to release domain, recover admin access, or make changes to your Microsoft 365 tenant. That said, I will do my best to provide a clear path forward.

Since reaching support by phone is not possible, you can create a free trial tenant and submit your request from there. To set up a new tenant, follow these steps:

Visit the Office 365 Enterprise plan and pricing comparison page, choose Basic plan, and click "Try for free" to start a free trial.

Follow the guided setup process to create your new trial account.

Once the new tenant is created, you should be able to access your support portal and submit your ticket.

Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center

Go to Show All > Support > New Service Request.

In the request, explain your situation in detail.

The support team will guide you through the identity verification process to help you regain access to your account.

    Important Notes:

This new test tenant doesn't give you access to your original locked tenant's data or settings. It only serves as a temporary means of contacting Microsoft support.

Be prepared for Microsoft to want to verify your identity and admin privileges from the previous tenant.

The processing time may be longer due to contacting support from another tenant.

Remember to cancel the trial subscription as soon as your original account is restored to avoid unwanted charges.

I truly hope you get this resolved swiftly. Please know that even though I cannot directly intervene, pointing you toward the correct, specialized support is genuinely the most effective help I can offer from my position. Please let me know if you need anything else. Wishing you all the best.
