Since password sign-in still works, use that first, then reset Windows Hello components in this order:
- Reset the PIN
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Under PIN (Windows Hello), select I forgot my PIN or remove the PIN and add it again.
- On the lock screen, Sign-in options can also be used to reset the PIN.
- Re-enroll fingerprint
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello).
- Select Remove, then set it up again.
- When registering, make sure the reader and finger are clean and dry, and capture different angles of the finger.
- If fingerprint still does nothing, reinstall the biometric driver
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Biometric devices.
- Right-click the fingerprint sensor and select Uninstall Device.
- Restart the PC so Windows reinstalls the driver.
- Restart the Windows Biometric Service
- First remove the PIN in Sign-in options.
- Open Command Prompt as administrator.
- Run:
net stop wbiosrvc && net start wbiosrvc - Then test fingerprint sign-in again.
- If PIN creation fails again
- Sign out, sign back in with the password, and try creating the PIN again.
- If face/fingerprint/PIN options show as unavailable after an update or recent change
- A restart can clear a stuck enrollment state.
- If Windows Hello worked before, a recently installed app, driver, or update may be involved.
Note: uninstalling the biometric device and removing PIN enrollment will require setting Windows Hello up again afterward.
