Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
For a Microsoft 365 subscription, try these checks in order:
- Verify the card details exactly match the bank record:
- Card number
- Expiration date
- Name on the card
- Billing address, including city, state, and ZIP/postal code
- Confirm the card has enough available funds or credit.
- If the payment is being declined repeatedly, contact the bank or card provider to check whether:
- the card is active
- the transaction is being blocked
- fraud/security controls are preventing the charge
- If this is a Microsoft 365 business account, make sure the payment method was issued from the same country or region as the tenant.
- If the subscription has an outstanding or past-due balance, pay that first, then try adding or changing the payment method again.
- If this is a personal Microsoft subscription, add or change the payment method from the Services & subscriptions page.
- If this is a work or business Microsoft 365 account:
- Open the Microsoft 365 admin center
- Go to Billing > Payment methods
- Add the new payment method there
- If the option to add or edit payment methods is missing, billing permission is required from the administrator
- If the issue continues after checking the details and bank status, contact Microsoft Support through Contact Support.
