I logged into my personal Outlook email on my previous company’s laptop. Some of my data is still syncing and visible there. Please advise how I can completely log out and remove my account so they cannot access my personal email or data again.

    Hi,

Since this is your previous company’s laptop and you no longer control it, I recommend securing the account remotely, with the steps from QA Assist.

From a new device, open your Microsoft account’s Advanced security options, scroll to Sign out everywhere, and select Sign out. Microsoft says this signs you out of your Microsoft account from browsers and apps within 24 hours. Additionally, Change your password so that the OneDrive sync also stops.

    1. If the old laptop appears under your Microsoft account devices, go to Devices, select that PC and choose Remove device.

The most important sequence is therefore: change password → sign out everywhere → remove the old device → enable/verify 2FA → ask the former company's IT department to erase locally cached personal data.

I hope this information helps. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to reach out. Wishing you good luck!

To stop access and syncing from that old laptop, do these actions in order:

    1. Remove the device from the Microsoft account
Go to the Microsoft account devices page, sign in with the personal Microsoft account, find the old laptop, and select Remove device or Sign out if that option is available. This stops Microsoft account-connected services on that PC.
    2. Sign out everywhere
Use the Microsoft account Additional security options page and select Sign out everywhere. This signs the account out of browsers, apps, and trusted devices. Allow up to 24 hours for the change to fully apply.
    3. Change the Microsoft account password
This prevents continued access from any saved session that requires reauthentication.
    4. Remove old OneDrive/device backup connections
Delete any old device backups or links associated with that laptop from OneDrive device backup settings. If camera upload or similar sync features were enabled from that device, turn them off.
    5. If the account is still signed in inside Outlook on that laptop
If access to the laptop is still possible, open Settings > Accounts, select the email account, and choose Remove Account.

Important detail: remote sign-out and device removal stop account access and syncing, but they do not physically delete already-downloaded local data from the laptop. If any mail or files were cached locally before sign-out, that local copy may still remain on the device.
