Tried to upgrade from home to pro through Microsoft store. Made me buy a license for P 7,299 inclusive of tax. But the upgrade failed. I have the invoice, but the license has not been linked to my account.

    Hi,

When you purchase a license from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft usually does not issue you a product key because your Windows Pro license is already linked to the Microsoft account used for the purchase as a digital license.

Log in to your Microsoft account here: https://account.microsoft.com/services. Can you see your purchase listed as Windows Pro?

Are you logged in to the computer you are trying to upgrade using the same Microsoft account?

In the meantime, try the method below:

    Disconnect from the internet

Go to Settings > System > Activation. Click "Change product key," enter "VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T," and hit activate.

Reconnect to the internet and make sure you’re signed in with the Microsoft account you used for the purchase.

    Restart your computer and check.

If the Windows 11 Home to Pro purchase was made through Microsoft Store, the Pro entitlement is normally a digital license tied to the Microsoft account used for the purchase, not a separately shown product key.

    Use this path:

    1. Check the current activation state:
      • Start > Settings > System > Activation
      • Confirm whether the device shows Windows Home, Windows Pro, or Windows Enterprise, and note the activation status.
    2. If the device is still on Windows 11 Home and the Store upgrade failed:
      • Disconnect the PC from the internet.
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Activation.
      • Select Change product key.
      • Enter this generic Windows 11 Pro key: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T
      • Start the edition upgrade.
      • Restart the PC.
      • Reconnect to the internet and sign in with the same Microsoft account used for the Microsoft Store purchase.
This generic key is used to move the installed edition to Pro. After the restart, the purchased digital license should activate automatically.
    3. If the device now shows Windows 11 Enterprise instead of Pro:
      • Disconnect from the internet.
      • In Settings > System > Activation > Change product key, enter the same generic Pro key: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T
      • Restart the PC.
      • Reconnect to the internet.
This is a known issue in similar Home-to-Pro Store upgrade failures, and using the generic Pro key can switch the edition back to Pro, after which the Store-purchased digital license can activate.
    4. If Activation Troubleshooter offers Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro, select it and then Start upgrade.
    5. If Windows is not activated after the edition is correctly shown as Pro, verify that the Microsoft account signed in on the device is the same account that received the Store purchase confirmation, because Store-bought Pro upgrades use a digital license associated with that account.
