The system audio is not working after every system shutdown and restart. I have to troubleshoot the audio after every restart. Could you please help identify and resolve the issue?

Restart (not shut down) your PC.

    Do not open any apps.

Right click your Start Button and open Device Manager.

Expand the 'Sound, Video and Game Controllers' section.

Please provide a screenshot of that full Device Manager window.

For audio that stops working after every shutdown and restart on Windows 11, use this order of checks:

    1. Restart the PC first
      • Select Start > Power > Restart.
      • After restart, check whether the audio device appears and sound works.
    2. Run the automated audio troubleshooter
      • Use the Audio troubleshooter in the Get Help app to run diagnostics and attempt repairs.
    3. Check whether the audio device is enabled in Device Manager
      • Open Device Manager.
      • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      • If the audio device is listed, right-click it and select Enable device if that option appears.
      • If the device is missing, select View > Show hidden devices, then Action > Scan for hardware changes.
    4. Update or reinstall the audio driver
      • In Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      • Right-click the sound device and select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
      • If that does not help, uninstall the device:
        • Right-click the audio device > Uninstall device.
        • Select Attempt to remove the driver for this device.
        • Select Uninstall.
        • Save open work first, then restart. Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.
      • If Windows still does not restore stable audio, install the latest audio driver from the PC or motherboard manufacturer.
    5. If the issue started after Windows Update, roll back the audio driver
      • In Device Manager, right-click the audio device > Properties > Driver tab > Roll Back Driver.
    6. Install Windows updates and restart again
      • Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      • Install available updates, then restart.
    7. If the device uses IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
      • In Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers, look for IDT High Definition Audio CODEC.
      • If present, select Update driver > Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
      • Select High Definition Audio Device and continue.
    8. Restart audio services
      • Open Services.
      • Restart these services:
        • Windows Audio
        • Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
        • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    9. If the problem continues after every restart
      • Restore the PC from a system restore point if the issue began recently after a driver or update change.
      • On Surface devices, if a normal restart does not help, try a full shutdown and restart. If audio problems continue, restore or reset the device.

A common cause of audio settings or functionality resetting after reboot is the audio driver being reloaded incorrectly or a generic driver being used instead of the device manufacturer’s driver. Installing the latest manufacturer-provided audio driver is the most direct long-term fix when the issue repeats after every restart.
