I have my headphones plugged into the back of my PCs into my motherboard's 3.5mm headphone jack. Every time I turn on my PC my audio has been reset to 16 bit, 96 kHz and spacial audio is turned off (from 32 bit, 192 kHz and Dolby Atmos which is what I set it back to every time). I never unplug my headphones.Screenshot 2025-07-22 160521

Hi! This issue, where your audio format and spatial audio settings reset after each reboot, is usually caused by one of the following:

  • Default Audio Driver Reloading: You’re currently using the Microsoft generic “High Definition Audio Device” driver, which is a fallback driver. It’s common for this driver to reset advanced audio settings.

Visit your motherboard manufacturer’s support page, and download the official Realtek audio driver for your model.

  • Windows Fast Startup: Fast Startup can cause certain settings, especially those initialized early during boot, to not persist.
  1. Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
  2. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
  3. Uncheck Turn on fast startup
  4. Save and reboot.

I apologise for the late response. I installed the audio drivers for my motherboard and it has fixed the issue. Thank you very much for your support. One further note, it also turns out that the audio quality is reset by dolby athmos to something in the 48-96 kHz range. Curiously, this occurs the second dolby is enabled, but windows will not show it until I close and reopen the settings window.
