Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hi So - Niche,
Thank you for explaining the situation.
First, I'd like to clarify that your Microsoft 365 subscription may be associated with a separate work or organizational account. Access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and business billing information requires an administrator account that belongs to the organization associated with the subscription.
When the subscription was purchased, Microsoft typically sent a confirmation email containing the admin account details, often in a format similar to ******@company.onmicrosoft.com. I recommend searching your inbox for terms such as "Microsoft 365", "subscription", or "onmicrosoft.com" to see if you can locate that information.
If you’re able to locate your admin account, sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. From there, go to Billing > Your products to manage your subscription and adjust the number of licences. To view invoices or make a payment, go to Billing > Bills & payments.
For detailed instructions, please refer to:
If you're unable to find the admin account and you're the only administrator, you'll need to contact Microsoft's Data Protection Team, as they are the only team authorized to verify ownership and assist with recovering administrative access to the tenant.
Option 1: Contact Microsoft Data Protection Support by Phone (Primary Method)
I understand you have already attempted to contact Microsoft Support by phone and were unable to open a case through the IVR system. Please try the following option, and I sincerely hope it helps resolve the issue for you.
To regain access to your admin account as you can't access the Admin Portal, you can try reaching out to our Global Customer Service phone to raise a request for resetting your authentication method here: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Supportand choose Work account.
During the call, request to speak to an agent, and share with them every detail related to your query and also mention that you are the only admin lost access to your account. This should allow you to contact the appropriate team so you can solve this incident as soon as possible.
In some regions, the initial interaction may be automated, so here’s a general idea of how the conversation might go to help you prepare:
Here are some tips and an example of a prompt to help you reach out the Microsoft Data Protection team support more effectively:
(When you call the support number, you may hear an introduction of about 30 seconds such as "you can visit the link...". You can ignore this introduction and wait until you are presented with the options. Then press "1" as a business email user, and again "1" for technical help.)
In some countries, it is an automated conversation like:
IVR: What kind of problem are you concerned about?
You: Authenticator.
IVR: What kind of product do you use?
You: Office 365 for business.
IVR confirmation: education or company account?
You: For companies
IVR: Are you an administrator?
You: Yes.
IVR: Do you have another administrator in your organization?
You: No.
IVR: Do you need a... Service request?
You: Yes. I need to create a ticket. Please send me directly to the Data Protection Team.
You will need to complete a tenant ownership verification with Microsoft’s Data Protection Team. This process generally involves submitting the following documentation:
- Proof of domain ownership, such as access to manage DNS records
- Billing or subscription information, including payment methods or account history
- The Tenant ID of the affected Microsoft 365 organization
- Official business registration documents
- Documentation confirming you are an authorized signatory for the business.
I also recommend calling during business hours. In my experience, it can be difficult to get through to the correct support queue, and automated systems don't always work as expected. If you can't get through on your first try, I suggest trying again later or at a different time.
Option 2: Create a Temporary Account (Trial Tenant) to Submit a Support Ticket (Alternative Method)
In case you are unable to contact the frontline support: Microsoft 365 Business Plans and Pricing | Microsoft 365
Consider signing up for a trial subscription to create a new tenant. Once set up, you can access the new tenant's admin console and submit a support ticket to speak with the data protection team on behalf of the previous tenant. Once your issue is resolved, please remember to cancel the trial subscription to avoid any unintended charges.
If your organization's subscription is from a partner or reseller: Contact the reseller's support provider to help open a service request on behalf of you instead.
I hope this helps point you in the right direction. If you have any updates or additional questions, feel free to reply back and I'll do my best to assist further.
Best regards.
