Hi, I need help recovering my original Microsoft account, not the new account that currently uses my Gmail.

My original Microsoft account used an email and contained my Xbox profile OUTERBoom and my Minecraft account.

On October 3, 2026, the original account was compromised. I believe the attacker removed my Gmail address from that Microsoft account and replaced it with an unfamiliar Outlook address beginning with ******@outlook.com.

Afterward, a new Microsoft account was accidentally created using the old email. I can prove this because the Recent Activity page for the account I currently control says:

October 3, 2026 at 5:50 PM — Account created

That new account has the Xbox gamertag outerboomer. It is NOT my original Xbox profile.

My original Xbox gamertag is OUTERBoom, which existed before October 3.

When I attempted to sign into Xbox using my old information, Microsoft displayed the unfamiliar ******@outlook.com address. Microsoft also recognizes that address as an existing account, but it currently reports that it is blocked because of too many incorrect password attempts.

When attempting Xbox authentication I also received:

Error code: 0x80048820

I need assistance recovering the original Microsoft account containing OUTERBoom and my Minecraft ownership, not help resetting the password for the newly created email Microsoft account.

Can you please investigate the compromised original account, verify my ownership, and escalate this to the appropriate account-recovery team if necessary?

Recovery of the original Microsoft account must go through Microsoft’s account recovery flow. Support agents cannot send password reset links or directly access and change account details.

    For a compromised account:

    1. Start with the sign-in helper tool. It can guide to self-help steps or offer the chance to talk to an agent: Start
    2. If access to the original account is still blocked, use the Microsoft account recovery form and provide a working email address that can receive updates. Microsoft reviews the answers and responds within 24 hours.
    3. In the recovery form, include as much identifying information as possible. For this scenario, the most relevant details are:
      • the original sign-in email address
      • older passwords used on the original account
      • the Xbox gamertag OUTERBoom
      • Minecraft ownership or purchase details tied to the original account
      • any Outlook.com or Hotmail.com contact names or exact email subject lines, if that account was used for mail
      • Skype or Xbox console details, if applicable
    4. If the account was hacked, scan the PC for malware before changing or resetting any password. In Windows Security, open Virus and threat protection > Scan options > Full scan > Scan now.
    5. If sign-in becomes possible again, immediately go to the Security basics page, review recent activity, and if suspicious activity appears select This wasn't me or Secure your account, then change the password.

    Important limits from Microsoft’s process:

    • If two-step verification was turned on and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, the account cannot be recovered through support.
    • If the original sign-in alias was removed and replaced, recovery still depends on the automated recovery process and the information submitted.
    • The currently accessible newly created account is separate from the original compromised account, so password reset steps for that new account will not restore access to the original one.

If more help is needed after using the sign-in helper, Microsoft provides a Contact Support entry point here: Contact Microsoft Support
