    Hi,

If selecting Repair Outlook does not start the repair process or does not resolve the issue, please try the following:

    1. Open Control Panel > Programs and Features.
    2. Select Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office and choose Change.
    3. Run Quick Repair first, and if the issue persists, run Online Repair.
    4. Start Outlook in Safe Mode by pressing Windows + R, typing outlook.exe /safe, and pressing Enter.
    5. If Outlook opens in Safe Mode, disable any add-ins and test again.
    6. Create a new Outlook profile from Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles > Add.
    7. If the issue continues, please provide:
      • Outlook version (Classic Outlook or New Outlook)
        • Any error message received
          • What happens when you click the Repair option

This additional information will help determine whether the problem is related to Office installation, Outlook profile corruption, add-ins, or data files.

    Hope this helps.

The new Outlook is installed as a separate app and you can repair or reinstall it from Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/apps/repair-apps-and-programs-in-windows .

The classic Outlook cannot be repaired individually; you will have to exit all Office apps and then repair your Office (or Microsoft 365) install. For more, read the article at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/lifecycle/repair-an-office-application . An Online Repair is more thorough. Before you begin, verify that you can access your associated Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com/services so that you can reinstall Office which is usually the final step of an Online Repair.

    Hi, @Andrew Hoppett

Are you using Outlook (classic), which is installed with Microsoft 365/Office, or the new Outlook for Windows app?

May I also know what troubleshooting steps have you already taken?

Have you tried manually repairing Outlook instead of using the repair prompt? If you haven't tried it yet, please follow the steps below.

    If you're using Outlook (classic):

First, please check if your Microsoft 365 subscription is active or if your Office license is listed by signing in at https://account.microsoft.com/services

If the subscription is active or your Office license is listed, try these steps:

    Repair Office apps:

    • Press Windows + R, type appwiz.cpl and press Enter
    • Find Microsoft 365 or Office in the list, select it, then choose Change > Quick Repair.
    • If that doesn’t help, run the repair again but select Online Repair instead.

    Check for updates:

    • Open any Office app that still opens, such as Word or Excel, then go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
    • Restart your device after the repair and try opening Outlook again.

If you're using the new Outlook for Windows instead:

    • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
    • Find Outlook (new), select the three dots > Advanced options.
    • Select Repair first.
    • If Repair doesn't help, select Reset.
    • Then open Microsoft Store > Library and check for app updates.

If Outlook still doesn’t open, please let me know which version you're using, Outlook (classic) or Outlook (new), and what exact message appears when it asks you to repair it.

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Thanks!

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Install the latest Office updates In Outlook, go to File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now. Outlook freezing and repair prompts can be caused by builds that were later fixed.
    2. Repair Office from Windows
      • Close all Office apps.
      • Open Control Panel > Programs and Features.
      • Find Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365.
      • Right-click it and select Repair or Change. If available, try a Quick Repair first, then Online Repair if the issue continues.
    3. Repair Outlook data files Outlook data files can become corrupted and trigger repair messages. Close Outlook and run the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe). Follow the steps in Repair Outlook Data Files (.pst and .ost).
    4. Create a new Outlook profile A corrupted Outlook profile can stop Outlook from opening correctly.
      • Open Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles.
      • Create a new profile.
      • Restart Outlook and choose the new profile. If Outlook opens with the new profile, the original profile was corrupted.
    5. Run the Classic Outlook Advanced Diagnostics troubleshooter Many common causes such as add-ins, damaged data files, large mailboxes, or conflicting software can be checked automatically. This troubleshooter works for classic Outlook on Windows 10 or later and does not work for new Outlook for Windows.
    6. Check antivirus software Make sure antivirus software is up to date. Outdated or conflicting antivirus software can prevent Outlook from working correctly.
    7. If the message says one of the data files is wrong There was a known issue in Outlook for Microsoft 365 after updating to Version 2005 Build 12827.20268 or higher. It was fixed in Monthly Channel Version 2005 Build 12827.20470 and higher. Updating Office can resolve that specific problem.

Important: Registry changes are mentioned in some repair articles, but incorrect registry edits can cause serious problems. Use update, Office repair, data file repair, and a new profile first.
