Try this in order:
- On the Windows sign-in screen, look for Sign-in options.
- If Password is available, use the Microsoft account password instead of the PIN.
- After signing in, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > PIN (Windows Hello) and select I forgot my PIN or set up a new PIN.
- If the Microsoft account password is not working, recover the Microsoft account first.
- Use Recover your account and enter the email address, phone number, or Skype name used for sign-in: Recover your account
- Check that the email domain is correct, such as
.comvs.co.uk, and try any other alias or phone number that may be on the account.
- If verification codes are not arriving:
- If the password is known but only some security info is inaccessible, sign in to Advanced security options, add a new way to receive codes, verify it, then remove the old one.
- If access to all security info is lost, start sign-in, and at Verify your identity select I don't have any of these. Follow the steps to replace the security info. After replacement, there is a 30-day wait before sign-in is allowed.
- If the password is also forgotten and there is no access to any security info, submit the account recovery form: Recover account
- If the account is a Yahoo address used as the Microsoft account sign-in, the Windows sign-in problem is still handled through Microsoft account recovery for that sign-in address. If Yahoo itself is not accessible, use any alternate verification method already on the Microsoft account, or the recovery form above.
- If the laptop says the PIN is unavailable and no other sign-in option works, Windows recovery may help:
- Enter Windows Recovery Environment and try Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.
- If available, also try Advanced options > System Restore.
- If the account may have been compromised, first run a full malware scan before changing the password:
- Open Windows Security
- Go to Virus and threat protection
- Select Scan options > Full scan > Scan now
- Then change or reset the password.
- If self-service recovery still fails, use Microsoft support:
- Contact support
- Support can route the issue, but support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
Important:
- The Windows PIN is different from the Microsoft account password.
- Do not change all security info at the same time, or the account may be restricted for 30 days.
