Hello Microsoft Support Team,

I am facing an issue with my laptop where the mouse cursor frequently disappears, and at the same time, the touchpad sometimes freezes and stops responding completely.

The cursor becomes invisible and I am unable to move it using the touchpad. The touchpad also becomes unresponsive, and the issue sometimes gets resolved only after restarting the laptop.

This problem is occurring repeatedly and is affecting my ability to use the laptop normally.

Could you please help me identify the cause and provide a solution? Please let me know if you need any additional system information or troubleshooting details from my side.

Thank you for your support.

The best option is to go to the support page for your laptop on the manufacturers website, then from there, download and reinstall (not update) the version of Chipset drivers and Touchpad drivers they provide for your laptop model.

If you have any difficulty locating that support page, click your Start Button, then just type msinfo and press Enter, please provide a screenshot of the resulting System Information window.

    Try this in order:

    1. Reinstall or update the touchpad driver
      • Open Device Manager.
      • Look for the touchpad under Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
      • First try updating the driver through Windows Update, which is the recommended method.
      • If that does not help, reinstall the device from Device Manager, then restart the laptop so Windows can download the latest driver again.
    2. Restart the PC after driver changes
      • A restart refreshes drivers, especially if updates were recently installed.
    3. Check whether the touchscreen is interfering with the cursor
      • In some devices, the cursor can appear to vanish during touch input.
      • Open Device Manager > Human Interface Devices.
      • Temporarily disable HID-compliant touch screen, restart, and test whether the cursor stays visible.
    4. Check basic hardware conditions
      • Make sure the touchpad surface is clean and dry.
      • If using an external mouse or wireless receiver, disconnect it temporarily and test only the built-in touchpad.
      • If the device is battery-powered, confirm batteries are charged or fresh.
    5. If the issue happens after sleep/resume
      • On some systems, touchpad problems after sleep are driver-related.
      • Reinstalling the related input device in Device Manager and restarting can restore normal operation.
    6. If the problem continues
      • Contact the laptop manufacturer for model-specific driver support.
      • If this is a Surface device, open the Surface app or Get Help for technical support.

Useful details to collect if more troubleshooting is needed:

    • Whether the issue started after a Windows update
    • Laptop manufacturer and model
    • Whether an external USB or Bluetooth mouse works normally when the touchpad freezes
    • Whether the problem happens mostly after sleep/wake
