Possible reasons supported by Microsoft documentation:
- The username is no longer recognized. If the sign-in page says Microsoft cannot find the account, use the Sign-in Helper tool first.
- If the account has not been signed in to for more than two years, it may have been deleted automatically and cannot be reopened.
- If the username or password stopped working, try the Recover your account flow and use any other alias or phone number that was added to the account.
- If the account was closed, it can only be reopened during the 30-day or 60-day grace period. After that, it cannot be restored.

- Check that the email address is typed exactly right, including the correct domain, and try any other alias or phone number that may be on the account.
- If the account was closed recently, try signing in at: Sign in If prompted for a security code and it succeeds, the account can be reopened.
- If the username is still not found after recovery attempts, use Contact support from the Microsoft support page for username/password stopped working.
Microsoft also states that support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details for security reasons.
