office install blocked by old work account

From your description, the desktop apps are most likely still trying to activate through your old work account, while Office on the web uses your current one. • Are you using Windows or macOS?
• What exact error appears when opening Word or Excel?
• Is this a personal Microsoft 365 subscription or a new employer’s business licence?
• Is the computer personally owned or still managed by the former employer?
• Under Word > File > Account, which licence and accounts are displayed?
• Does the old account appear under Windows Settings > Accounts > Access work or school?
