To stop users from being able to buy or start self-service trials, disable the AllowSelfServicePurchase policy for that product.

    PowerShell method

    1. List products that support self-service purchase:
         Get-MSCommerceProductPolicies -PolicyId AllowSelfServicePurchase

This shows the ProductId and whether self-service purchase is currently Enabled or Disabled.
    2. Disable self-service purchase for the specific product:
         Update-MSCommerceProductPolicy -PolicyId AllowSelfServicePurchase -ProductId <ProductId> -Enabled $False

This blocks both purchases and trials for that product.

    Admin center method

The same control is also available in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

If the goal is to remove an existing self-service subscription that a user already bought, an admin can take over or cancel it:

    1. Go to Billing > Your products.
    2. On the Products tab, filter by Self-service.
    3. Select the subscription.
    4. Choose Take control of this subscription to move users to another subscription, or cancel the self-service subscription.

Important: Canceling a self-service purchase removes access for users assigned to that subscription.

    Hi Sabrina,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, a user in your tenant purchased a Microsoft 365 license/subscription through self-service purchase.

To cancel a subscription purchased through self-service purchase, you can follow these steps:

    1. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Billing > Your products.
    2. On the Products tab, select the filter icon, and then select Self-service.
    3. Select the subscription that you want to cancel.
    4. On the subscription details page, under Subscriptions and settings, select Take control of this subscription.
    5. In the details pane, select Cancel subscription.
    6. Select a reason for cancellation from the drop-down list, and then select Cancel subscription.
    7. In the Are you sure you want to cancel? dialog box, select Cancel subscription.
    8. Close the details pane.
    9. On the subscription details page, the Subscription status will be displayed as Deleted.

If you want to disable the feature that allows users in your tenant to purchase subscriptions themselves, you can follow these steps:

1/ In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Settings > Org settings.

2/ On the Services tab of the Org settings page, select Self-service trials and purchases.

3/ The Self-service trials and purchases page lists the products that are eligible for self-service and displays the current self-service setting for each product.

4/ To manage the settings for a specific product, select the product name. A panel will open and display the current settings for the selected product.

5/ To change the product setting, select one of the following options:

    • Allow
    • Allow for trials only
    • Do not allow

6/ If you want to prevent users from purchasing that product themselves, select Do not allow.

    7/ Select Save changes.

I hope this information is helpful.
