Transfer saved Minecraft & Dungeons Xbox data from one Profile to another

My son has been using my wife's account for many years for Xbox games including Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons. He has his own account now, which we are ok with re-purchasing old games on, but is it possible to transfer the game data itself?

    Hello DaveE123,

I understand why you’d want to keep the progress your son has built up over the years. Microsoft doesn’t offer a supported way to move Xbox saves or game progress from your wife’s account to his new account, even if you repurchase the games.

There may be a separate, unofficial possibility for Minecraft Dungeons characters if those character files are available on a Windows PC, but it would not transfer his Xbox profile or all his game progress. Has he played Dungeons on a Windows PC, or only on Xbox? That will help determine whether there’s anything worth checking beyond the account-transfer limitation.

No. Xbox/Microsoft game progress, purchases, gamertag, and related saved progress stay tied to the Microsoft account/profile where they were created and can’t be transferred to another Microsoft account.

    What is possible:

    • Rebuy the games on the new account.
    • Keep using the original account for the existing saves.
    • If the goal is only to change the sign-in email for the account that owns the Xbox data, an alias change may help preserve access to that same account, but it does not move data to a different account.

    Relevant account limitation:

    • Microsoft personal accounts can’t be linked, merged, or combined.
    • Game progress can’t be transferred from one Microsoft account to another.

For title-to-title save sharing, game developers can configure connected storage access policies in Partner Center, but that is for sharing saves across titles under developer control, not for moving a player’s saves from one Microsoft account/profile to another.
