Accessing Microsoft Teams for Education using school or organizational credentials
If the student account is prompting only for Microsoft Authenticator and the app is not producing the approval prompt or code, the supported actions are:
- In the sign-in screen, select Other ways to sign in or Sign in another way if that option appears.
- If another verification method is available, use it.
- If no other method is available, contact the university IT administrator or help desk and ask them to reset the MFA registration or require MFA re-registration for the account.
- After the reset, sign in again and register Microsoft Authenticator from scratch.
If the Authenticator app is installed but authentication is still not completing, check these items on the phone:
- Make sure Microsoft Authenticator is unlocked.
- Make sure notifications are enabled for the app and not silenced.
- Update to the latest version of Microsoft Authenticator.
- Verify the phone has an internet connection; switching between Wi‑Fi and mobile data can help.
- Make sure the device date and time are correct.
If unrequested sign-in prompts appear, select Deny and do not approve them.
For a lost, replaced, or no-longer-working phone, the documented path for a work or school account is to sign in with a different method if available, or ask the organization’s Help desk to clear the MFA settings.
