Unable to use my Office 2019 products

Today I am unable to use any of my Office 2019 products. It is requesting a license number or to purchase 365 personal. I purchased basic last year. I purchased 2019 Office years ago and cannot find my original license number. Why did this happen and how to fix? No programs will open, cannot use Outlook, Word, Exel, etc.

Just to be clear, you are running Office under Windows? If you are, Office 2019 should definitely continue working, although the product is out of support.

What is the exact error message you see? Does it explicitly say that Office 2019 is unlicensed?

I am asking because even newer versions, such as my own installation of Office Home & Business 2024, now includes an "encouragement" to upgrade. See the screen shot.

Hi Stefan, Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately the error was a red banner across every Office product telling me that I was in view only mode I had to activate the product. Then big boxes centered on the screen stating "log in" "activate" "I have a product license". I've had Office 2019 as long as it's been out, never an issue. Blessedly my Dad found that I had saved my key on a word doc on one of his computers, because I couldn't access it on my One Note where I had it! So now I'm fixed.

Thanks for the additional pieces of information. There are several threads here in Q&A that mentions similar problems with activation.

Some posters in the Reddit thread at https://www.reddit.com/r/microsoftoffice/comments/1woutac/multiple_ms_office_2019_got_deactivated_today/ seem to suggest that you can reactivate Office, in cases when installations deactivate. If that is correct, there is no permanent damage done, of course, although I understand the inconvenience for those who support a large number of PCs with older perpetual licenses.

True as long as the user can find their copy of the license key to reinstall. I label my machines with the software keys, many folks probably can't find the ones from years ago. I would hate to be a sysad of a small company that gets effected.

Yes, that is true. Microsoft leaves it up to the customer to keep track of product keys and accounts.

Just a minor update: this problem is being investigated by Microsoft.

You can help shed some light over the problem by clarifying which operating system you are running. Is it Windows 11 or an older version? Which one, in that case?
