Windows Autopilot used computer registered to previous organization

I purchased a used Dell Latitude 5450 from a thrift store and discovered that it is still registered with Windows Autopilot to a previous organization.

I do not know the organization and do not have access to its Microsoft 365, Intune, or Entra administrator.

I have already performed a clean installation of Windows 11 using official Microsoft installation media. The current Windows installation is not joined to Entra ID, a domain, or a workplace account, and there is no active MDM enrollment.

However, Microsoft's Autopilot diagnostic information confirms that the device is still associated with the previous organization's Autopilot tenant and has forced enrollment configured.

I have proof of purchase from the thrift store and can provide the device's identifying information and the Autopilot diagnostic information privately if required.

What is the proper Microsoft-supported process for having a legitimately purchased used computer released from a previous organization's Windows Autopilot registration when the previous organization is unknown or unavailable?

Thank you.

Microsoft’s current official Autopilot support documentation is quite explicit about this.

For an end user, Microsoft lists the support path as: End-user > Contact the IT administrator or the Channel Partner/OEM. If this was registered by Dell initially via Partner Center, there's a chance they might be able to remove it for you.

Otherwise, you would have to reinstall as Home edition in order to prevent the autopilot feature to kick in. If the computer doesn't have an OEM license onboard to support Home edition activate, you would have to get your own license.

I will share the installation instructions anyway.

    =============

After you make the installation media,

On a different computer, launch the Notepad app and place the following in the file:

    [EditionID] Core
    [Channel] Retail

Then choose Save As and choose file type "all ..", then save it as EI.cfg in the file name field. And then place this file in your flash drive under the \Sources folder in the installation flash drive.

Then new another file in Notepad, and put this in the file:

    [PID] Value=YTMG3-N6DKC-DKB77-7M9GH-8HVX7

And now save it as PID.txt file. No need to do the Save as this time. Put in in the same folder.

Then use this flash drive to do a clean install.
