How to stop individual occurrences from sending when inviting people to a recurring meeting

I invited a few people to several single meetings that were part of a recurring event on Microsoft Calendar, and now it sends all those individual events when I invite people to the entire recurring event; how do I stop that from happening? I only want to invite people to the recurring event, not spam them with invites to each individual event within the recurring event as well.

    Hi Dayna,

    Thank you for reaching out.

This behavior occurs because the meetings you previously edited or invited people to individually are treated as exceptions to the recurring series. When you later add attendees to the entire series, Outlook may send the main recurring invitation along with separate updates for those modified meetings.

Unfortunately, Outlook on the web does not currently provide an option to prevent those individual updates from being sent while adding attendees to the entire series.

To avoid this behavior, please follow these steps:

    1. Cancel the recurring series. Please note that current attendees will receive a cancellation notification.
    2. Create a new recurring meeting using the same details.
    3. Add everyone who should attend the complete series before sending the invitation.
    4. Going forward, edit a single occurrence only when that specific meeting needs a different time, description, or attendee list.

This creates a clean recurring series and should send attendees one invitation for the complete series instead of separate invitations for previously modified occurrences.

Wishing you a quick resolution. Feel free to let me know if there are any updates.
