Switching Microsoft 365 subscription for Windows to Microsoft 365 subscription for Mac

A Microsoft 365 subscription does not need to be switched from Windows to Mac. Microsoft 365 Family, Personal, or Premium can be installed on either Mac or PC.

If the subscription is already active, sign in with the same Microsoft account on the new Mac and install Microsoft 365 there. Most apps for Microsoft 365 Family, Personal, or Premium subscriptions as well as Office 2021 apps can be installed on either Mac or PC.

If changing from one Microsoft 365 plan to another is also needed:

1. If moving to a plan with more features, buy the new subscription using the same Microsoft account. The new benefits start right away, and the remaining days on the current subscription are automatically converted and added to the new subscription.
2. If moving to a plan with fewer features, cancel the current subscription first, then buy the new one. The current subscription continues until it expires, and the new plan takes effect at renewal.

If the subscription was purchased through a third-party billing partner such as the Apple App Store, Google Play, or certain retail partners, that partner manages cancellation, renewal, payment method changes, and possibly plan switching.

If installing on the Mac for the first time, internet access is required for the initial install and activation.
