I want to downgrade my Microsoft 365 Personal subscription to the Microsoft 365 Personal Classic plan to remove Copilot, but the option is missing from my dashboard. How do I find this?

    Hi Audra,

The option isn't missing, it's just hidden. Classic never shows on the dashboard, it only appears inside the cancellation flow.

    Do this:

    1. Go to account.microsoft.com/services, signed in with the account that owns the subscription.
    2. Find Microsoft 365 Personal, click Manage > Cancel subscription. Don't worry, this doesn't cancel anything yet.
    3. On the cancel page, the downgrade options appear. Pick Microsoft 365 Personal Classic and confirm. It takes effect at your next renewal.

If Classic doesn't show up there, check these: recurring billing must be turned ON, and the subscription must be bought directly from Microsoft (if it came through Apple or Google, they control the plans and Classic won't appear). Classic is also a targeted offer for existing subscribers, so not every account gets it.

If you tick those boxes and still don't see it, contact billing support at support.microsoft.com/contactus and ask them directly to switch you to Personal Classic. Agents can apply it where the flow doesn't show it.

One warning: don't fully cancel hoping to re-subscribe to Classic. It can't be purchased fresh, only switched to.

    Hi,
Is there no option to downgrade when you cancel?

    https://yourwindowsguide.com/2025/04/use-microsoft-365-without-copilot.html

    • Log In to Your Microsoft Account: First, visit the Microsoft account services page and log in with your credentials. The link for it is here.
    • Manage Subscription: In the next step, look for your Microsoft 365 subscription and select the Manage option. Then, you should find an option labelled Cancel subscription.
    • Select the Classic Plan: After cancelling, you may be prompted to switch to one of the Classic plans available. These include:
      • Microsoft 365 Personal Classic (approximately $69.99 per year)
      • Microsoft 365 Family Classic (roughly $99.99 per year)
    • Confirm Changes: Concurrently, Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm your downgrade to the Classic plan. Be aware that the new subscription will take effect upon your next billing cycle

I look forward to hearing from you to get the results of the troubleshooting.
