Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To identify and stop the charge:
- Go to Manage your payments and select Investigate to find the charge and check whether it is tied to a subscription, another Microsoft account, or a family member using the same card.
- Review order history for multiple purchases of the same amount close together. This helps confirm whether it is a duplicate charge or a normal retry of a previously declined payment.
- Check Services & subscriptions with the Microsoft account that may have made the purchase.
- If Turn on recurring billing appears, the subscription is already set to expire on the shown date and no further cancellation step is needed.
- If a subscription is active, cancel it there.
- If the subscription was bought through a third party such as Amazon, Best Buy, Google Play, or the Apple App Store, cancellation and refunds must be handled through that seller.
- If the charge is still not recognized, use the billing troubleshooter or contact Microsoft Support.
- If payment information may be compromised, contact the bank or payment provider to prevent more charges.
Common reasons for an unexpected Microsoft charge include:
- recurring billing is enabled on a subscription
- a previously declined charge was retried successfully
- another account used the same payment card
- a family member made the purchase
- an in-app purchase was made
