If Windows is signed in with a Microsoft account:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Select Password > Change.
- Follow the prompts.
- If the current password is forgotten, select Forgot my current password and complete the verification steps.
If Windows is signed in with a local account:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Select Password > Change.
- Enter the current password, then create the new password.
- If the password is forgotten while already signed in, select I forgot my password, answer the security questions, and enter a new password.
If not signed in to Windows:
- For a Microsoft account, on the sign-in screen select I forgot my password.
- For a local account, on the sign-in screen select the password entry button, then OK > Reset password, and answer the security questions.
If signed in with a PIN and the Microsoft account password needs to be changed:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Select Password > Change.
- If the password is forgotten, select Forgot my current password and follow the verification steps.
