Double Charge

I have already paid for a year's subscription for Microsoft 365 Personal as from 11 August 2026. Today (18 September 2026), I have requested an upgrade to the Microsoft 365 Family. I appear to have been charged twice on both dates when I only requested an upgrade. I would like to enquire how I go about getting a refund of the charge on 11 August 2026.

The process to upgrade your Microsoft 365 subscription is explained on the link below, in your case, check the 'Switch to a version with more features' section.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/accounts-billing/subscriptions/switch-between-microsoft-365-subscriptions

When you switch to a Microsoft 365 version with more features, you are charged for a new subscription, then, the remaining time on the original subscription is converted to the new subscription on a pro-rata percentage basis (92%) in this case.

Log into your Microsoft account on this link and check the expiry date on your subscription is it indicated as 2028?

To check whether this was a true double charge or an upgrade-related second subscription charge:

    1. Sign in to Services & subscriptions and confirm whether both Microsoft 365 Personal and Microsoft 365 Family appear, and whether one is still active or set to expire.
    2. Review Order history and look for two separate purchases or charges close together for Microsoft 365.
    3. If the August 11 charge does not look correct, or only one charge appears in order history while the bank shows more than one, go to Manage your payments and select Investigate.

For a refund of the August 11 Microsoft 365 Personal charge:

    1. Sign in with the Microsoft account used to make the purchase.
    2. Go to Services & subscriptions.
    3. Select the subscription, then Manage > Cancel.
    4. During cancellation, Microsoft will automatically indicate whether that subscription qualifies for a refund.

    Supported refund policy details:

    • In most cases, a refund may be available within 30 days of the initial purchase or before the first recurring billing date, whichever is sooner, by canceling through the refund flow.
    • A refund of the most recent recurring billing charge may also be available if cancellation happens within 30 days after payment, limited to one time per Microsoft account, per subscription product.
    • Not all cancellations result in a refund.

If the subscription was purchased through Google Play or the Apple App Store, the refund must be requested from that store instead of Microsoft.

If the charge still looks wrong after checking order history and payments, use Contact Support from Microsoft Support for billing help.
