    Hi Noreen Garcia,

Just checking in to see how you’re getting on with this. Have you had a chance to try the steps in the AI Answer above? If so, please let me know which steps you tried and what happened, so I don’t suggest anything you’ve already done.

Would you also mind sharing the exact message you see when you try to sign in? Also, are you signing in with a personal Microsoft account, a local Windows account or a work/school account? If you remember, did this start after an update or another recent change to the PC?

If another account is shown on the sign-in screen, it would be helpful to see whether you can sign in with that one. I’d also double-check the keyboard language, Caps Lock and Num Lock or try the on-screen keyboard from the Accessibility menu just to rule out an input issue.

If the problem started after a recent system change and nothing suggested so far has helped, System Restore may also be worth trying if you have a restore point from before the issue began.

Let me know what you find, especially the exact error message. That should help narrow down what’s going wrong and what would be best to try next.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. On the Windows sign-in screen, select Sign-in options and switch from PIN to Password.
    2. Sign in with the password for the Microsoft account used on the PC.
    3. If the password is not accepted, use I forgot my password on the sign-in screen, or reset it here: Recover your account.
    4. When resetting the password, enter the email address, phone number, or Skype name used for the account, choose where to receive the security code, enter the code, and create a new password.
    5. If the PIN is the only problem, use I forgot my PIN from the sign-in screen to reset it.
    6. If sign-in still fails, make sure the PC is connected to the internet from the lock screen by selecting Network.
    7. Restart the device. If updates are pending, use Update and restart.
    8. If the issue continues, start in Safe Mode with Networking:
      • On the sign-in screen, hold Shift and select Power > Restart.
      • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
      • After restart, select 5 or press F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
    9. If the Microsoft account still cannot be accessed, use the Microsoft account Sign-in helper to identify the account issue.

Important: Microsoft support cannot retrieve or bypass a lost or forgotten password, and support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
