samsung camera onedrive location

THere are serveral support articles explaining how to turn on the Onedrive camera backup for Samsung phones. These articles DO NOT explain what the Onedrive folder location is, whether it will make a second copy of all the photos I have on my phone, and if the current folder will be deleted. In addition there are several folders on Samsung Gallery other than Camera Roll, can I back these up.

Currently I have Onedrive\Pictures\Camera Roll which has all my current plus historical folders but I'm not sure if this will still be the location. I have confirmed that Onedrive backup for camera is currently OFF on my phone, I don't want to turn it on until I understand the resolution.

    Hello Brian V,

    Your concern is valid because OneDrive Camera Backup works differently from Samsung Gallery sync.

    Switching from Samsung Gallery sync to OneDrive Camera Backup may upload all eligible photos currently stored on the device, not only newly taken photos. Therefore, if those photos are already in OneDrive, you should allow for the possibility of duplicate uploads. Microsoft does not document an option to restrict the initial scan to new photos only.

    Camera Backup is a one-way backup. Enabling it does not delete the original photos or folders from your phone. After a photo is backed up, deleting the local copy from the phone does not delete the OneDrive copy. This differs from Samsung Gallery sync, where deletions can be reflected in both locations.

    Backed-up camera photos normally appear in Pictures\Camera Roll. Additional Samsung Gallery folders can be selected under OneDrive > account image > Settings > Camera backup > Back up device folders. Enable Categorize if you want OneDrive to retain the original folder organization; otherwise, the selected images are placed in Camera Roll.

    Before enabling Camera Backup, I recommend confirming that your existing photos are accessible at OneDrive.com, checking that sufficient OneDrive storage is available, and keeping a separate backup of important photos. Avoid deleting anything until you have verified the results.

    Starting September 30, 2026, Samsung Gallery will no longer sync directly with OneDrive, so OneDrive Camera Backup is Microsoft’s supported method for continuing automatic photo backup.
