Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
For her to use the shared subscription, these conditions must be true:
- The subscription being shared must be an active Microsoft 365 Family, Premium, or Pro subscription.
- The person sharing it must be the subscription holder.
- She must accept the invitation and join the Microsoft family group. The shared subscription does not fully apply until she selects Join now and joins the family group.
- She cannot already be using another shared subscription.
To share the Family subscription correctly:
- Sign in to the Microsoft account, Sharing page using the account that owns the Microsoft 365 Family subscription.
- On the Sharing tab, select Start sharing.
- Send the invitation either:
- by email, using the email address she uses for her Microsoft account, or
- by link, then have her open the link and sign in with her Microsoft account.
If she did not receive the invitation:
- Check that the invitation was sent to her preferred email address.
- Ask her to check the Junk Mail folder for a message with "Microsoft 365" in the subject.
Because her old subscription has expired, she should still be able to keep her files. When a subscription expires, the account reverts to a free account, and Office apps go into reduced functionality mode until a subscription is restored. She can still use Microsoft 365 for the web in a browser right away if needed for schoolwork.
If she already accepted the invitation but Office still shows the expired subscription, check that she is signed in with the same Microsoft account that accepted the family invitation. If the shared subscription is active in that account, uninstalling existing Office apps and reinstalling from the Services & subscriptions page can help avoid conflicts.
If the Family subscription owner later lets the subscription expire, all shared benefits stop for everyone who was invited.
