Using New Outlook on Windows for professional communication and productivity
Dear @Laurel Smith,
Good day! Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum!
Based on your description, I understand that you can no longer open and edit Outlook contact cards directly within the New Outlook desktop app. Instead, Outlook only gives you the option to save the contact card to your computer or open it as a separate file, whereas this functionality worked previously.
Regarding this situation, I performed additional testing on my end and was able to successfully open, edit, and save a contact card (.vcf file) in Outlook. I also worked with a colleague to validate the behavior independently, and they were able to modify the contact information and save the updated contact without any issues. The changes were successfully saved to their Contacts list.
This is the contact card that I have in my Contacts list, I shared it as vCard:
This is what my colleague saw when clicking on the contact card that I shared:
They were able to edit on the contact card (they added 1 in front of the name) and save to their Contacts list:
Based on the testing, the functionality appears to be working as expected in me and my colleague's environments, which suggests the behavior may be specific to your Outlook client, profile, or configuration.
To better understand the cause, could you please help me with the following information:
- What version of New Outlook are you using (You could check via Outlook Settings > General > About Outlook)
- Does this happen with all contact cards (.vcf files) or only those received from a specific sender?
- When you double-click the contact card attachment, what options are presented to you? Could you share a screenshot of the behavior you're seeing when opening the contact card?
- Is the contact card attached directly as a .vcf file, or is it shared through another method (such as a contact link)?
- Have you recently switched to New Outlook or noticed this behavior after an Outlook update?
- Have any of your colleagues who receive the same contact card been able to open, edit, and save it successfully?
- If possible, could you ask a colleague in your organization to test opening the same contact card and let me know the result?
Your confirmation would be very helpful in ensuring you receive the most suitable support!
If you’re able to share a bit more about your situation, I might be able to suggest some helpful next steps.
Kindly let me know when there are updates or if you need further assistance. Any updates you’re able to share would be really helpful. I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing how things are going!
Thank you for your time and patience.
