    Hi, David Gaither

The prompt may be coming from Apple Mail, Contacts, or Calendar syncing the Gmail account in the background, even when you mainly use the Gmail and Outlook apps.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

Open iPhone Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts > Gmail, then turn Mail off. This keeps the Gmail account available elsewhere but stops Apple Mail from checking it.

Also check Settings > Apps > Contacts > Contact Accounts and Settings > Apps > Calendar > Calendar Accounts. If Gmail is listed and you do not need Gmail contacts or calendars on the iPhone, turn those sync options off.

In Outlook, tap your profile picture, then the gear icon. Select the Gmail account and choose Reset Account. This refreshes Outlook’s locally stored connection without removing and adding the mailbox again.

Update both Outlook from the App Store and iOS under Settings > General > Software Update. Recurring password prompts can occur when an older app version no longer meets updated sign-in requirements.

If Gmail continues working normally while the prompt appears, disabling the unused Apple Mail, Contacts, or Calendar connection is the most likely way to stop it.

Thank you for your patience in reading, I hope this information has been helpful to you.

The Gmail password prompt is typically coming from an Outlook account connection to Gmail, not from the iPhone itself. If Outlook is connected to a Gmail mailbox and the saved sign-in is no longer valid, Outlook can keep prompting for the Gmail password.

    Try this in order:

    1. Confirm which app is prompting
      • If the prompt appears while using Outlook for iOS, the request is coming from the Outlook app’s Gmail account connection.
      • If it appears in Apple’s own mail/account prompt, it may be an iPhone account setting instead.
    2. If the Gmail account is added to Outlook for iOS and not needed there, remove it
      • In Outlook for iOS, go to Settings > Accounts.
      • Select the Gmail account and remove it.
      • This disables Outlook from asking for that Gmail password.
    3. If the Gmail account is needed in Outlook for iOS, remove and add it again
      • In Outlook for iOS, go to Settings > Accounts.
      • Remove the Gmail account, then add it back.
      • If Gmail uses extra sign-in security, Outlook may need a current provider-specific sign-in or app password.
    4. If the password was changed recently, update it at Gmail first
      • Password changes must be made on the email provider’s website, not inside Outlook.
      • After changing it there, Outlook should detect a sync error and ask for the updated password again.
      • If Outlook for iOS still does not sync after that, delete the account and re-add it.
    5. If Gmail 2-step verification is enabled
      • Outlook may need a Gmail app password instead of the normal Gmail password.
      • When prompted in Outlook, use the 16-character Gmail app password as one continuous string without spaces.
    6. If mail is missing or delayed in Outlook for iPhone after reconnecting Gmail
      • In Gmail settings, make sure IMAP is enabled.
      • Set Gmail Folder Size Limits to Do not limit the number of messages in an IMAP folder (default).

If the goal is to stop the pop-up completely, the direct fix is to remove the Gmail account from Outlook on the iPhone. If Gmail is only meant to stay in the Gmail app, it does not need to be added to Outlook.
