How to sync newly-sent emails in Outlook M365/Edge

I'm using a business M365 account to send emails to other users in the same business. Using Outlook in the Edge browser with a Windows 11 laptop.

I create an email, opening a new window, and send it. No attachments, to a single user.

On returning to the main browser window, the Sent folder does not show the email I just sent. The Drafts folder is empty and there's no Outbox folder to check.

The Sent folder updates as expected when I do a browser refresh, but shouldn't the display update automatically?

    Hi Richard,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, you have two browser windows open: one displaying the main Outlook interface and another being used to compose an email. After sending the email, when you return to the main Outlook window, you do not see the email you just sent appear in the Sent Items folder.

Normally, after an email is sent, Outlook should sync the information, and the sent email should appear in the Sent Items folder in the main window.

I recommend trying the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. Clear the cache in Microsoft Edge

Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete, clear the browser cache, and then check whether the issue still occurs.

    1. Test in an InPrivate window

Try signing in to Outlook using an InPrivate window in Microsoft Edge. Then, send a test email and check whether the issue continues to occur.

    1. Test with a different network connection

You can try using a mobile hotspot from your phone to determine whether the synchronization issue is related to your current network connection.

    1. Test on another device

If possible, sign in to Outlook on another device and repeat the same steps to see whether the issue also occurs there.

Based on the results of these tests, I will be able to better understand the issue and provide you with the most appropriate guidance.

I look forward to hearing from you.

In Outlook on the web, a manual sync is supported. In the web experience, selecting Mail and then View > Sync refreshes messages, and refreshing the browser also checks for new messages.

For a just-sent message not appearing in Sent Items until refresh, the supported checks are:

    1. Refresh the browser or use View > Sync in Outlook on the web.
    2. Check whether the message is still in Drafts or Outbox.
    3. If the mailbox is full, sending and receiving can be affected.

The available context does not document whether the Sent Items view in Outlook on the web should always update automatically immediately after sending from a separate compose window. It does confirm that manual sync and browser refresh are valid ways to update the message list.
