we are facing issue in excel 2026, 2019 and 2021 copy 7 paste issue how to resolve

Hello, facing this issue in Excel Office 2016 right after the latest updates, so I decided to uninstall Office 2016 and replace with office 2019 and the issue persists. As I moved to Office 2019 I cannot uninstall KB5002914 because office 2016 has been removed but the effects of KB5002914 are still there.

Issues are:

-CUT & PASTE of the cell(s): works

-Copy & Paste of the cell(s): DOES NOT work

-After selecting a cell for Copy and Paste, the borders of the cell keep on blinking and ESC no longer works

-Copy and paste of the content of a cell works

Please advice.

According to the Microsoft support article, the paste issue has been documented as affecting Excel 2024, 2021, 2019, and 2016. The article indicates that the issue is being investigated and will be updated when more information becomes available: Description of the security update for Excel 2016: September 08, 2026 (KB5002914)

Since uninstalling KB5002914 did not resolve the issue in your case, you may consider submitting feedback through Excel like I suggested and monitoring the support article for any further guidance or updates.

I am on MSOF 2024 LTSC Version: 16.0.17932, and I am experiencing all the above. I may add that pressing CTRL+D, it does not copy down. I've notice the only work around for me is to CTRL+C, then right click on the cell with the mosue and paste via Formula then it work. I've also notice that if you do CTRL+C, then press ESC right after, it cancels it out as it should, but if you do a CTRL+V after doing CTRL+C, it some how get glitch, cells remain in Dotted line (like waiting for cell to be paste) then its when pressing ESC wont work, you have to press CTRL+C then press ESC to clear that out.

The CTRL+X, CTRL+z, does not work for me.. Maybe because if the version I have.

this is very annoying since I do a lot of CTRL+D in my workbook.. :(

Hope this gets fixed soon...

we just go to the root folder where excel.exe is located and paste the file of working excel.exe, from another pc.

Just to follow up -

Microsoft has released a corrective update.

For Excel 2016, KB5002665, released September 16, 2026, specifically fixes the known KB5002914 issue that caused certain paste operations to fail silently.

One caveat: Microsoft says paste operations may still fail in workbooks containing conditional formatting. So this is a confirmed fix for the original issue, but not yet a complete resolution of every paste failure scenario.

I’m experiencing the same issues described here. I recreated one of the affected worksheets from scratch, copying and pasting at every step, and the problem started occurring after applying conditional formatting to a cell.

In my case I had to do separate commands

cd "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun"

then run

./OfficeC2RClient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.10417.20197

Looks like it's ok now

To help narrow down the issue, could you please confirm the following:
- When you mention Excel 2026, are you referring to Excel 2016?
- Are Excel 2016, 2019, and 2021 installed on separate computers?
- Did the Copy and Paste issue begin immediately after installing a Windows or Office update?
- Does it occur in all workbooks, including a new blank workbook?
- Does Copy and Paste work normally in other applications, such as Word or Notepad?
- Have you already tried repairing Office, including both Quick Repair and Online Repair? Please refer to: Repair an Office application
- Also, could you try uninstalling and reinstalling Office to see if it helps with your issue.

  Download and install or reinstall Office 2021, Office 2019, or Office 2016

If you are experiencing issues with a recent update, you can downgrade your Office installation to a previous stable version using the built-in Click-to-Run client.

Step-by-Step Guide to Downgrade Office

1.**Close all Office applications:**Prerequisite.

Close programs like Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint to ensure files are not locked during the downgrade process.

2.**Open Command Prompt as Administrator:**1 min.

Click the Windows Start menu, type cmd, right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.

3.**Navigate to the ClickToRun directory:**Command line.

Type the following command and press Enter to switch to the required directory:

DOS

cd /d "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun"

Verification: Ensure your command prompt path changes to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun>.

4.**Run the downgrade command:**5-10 min.

Discovered this bug on my Windows 11 Desktop running Microsoft Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021 this morning. After playing around with Excel Copy and Paste, I can confirm that:

Generic pasting within a cell works (Ctrl + C to copy and Ctrl + V)

Explicit numeric pasting ALSO works (Ctrl + Alt + V, then press V and hit Enter)

Explicit formula pasting ALSO works (Ctrl + Alt + V, press F for formulas, and hit Enter)

Not an ideal solution, but works for what I need to do in Excel until they get it fixed.
