    Just to follow up -

Microsoft has released a corrective update.

For Excel 2016, KB5002665, released September 16, 2026, specifically fixes the known KB5002914 issue that caused certain paste operations to fail silently.

One caveat: Microsoft says paste operations may still fail in workbooks containing conditional formatting. So this is a confirmed fix for the original issue, but not yet a complete resolution of every paste failure scenario.

I’m experiencing the same issues described here. I recreated one of the affected worksheets from scratch, copying and pasting at every step, and the problem started occurring after applying conditional formatting to a cell.

In my case I had to do separate commands

    cd "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun"

    then run

    ./OfficeC2RClient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.10417.20197

    Looks like it's ok now

    Thanks

    Hi @Saddiq Basha

To help narrow down the issue, could you please confirm the following:

    • When you mention Excel 2026, are you referring to Excel 2016?
    • Are Excel 2016, 2019, and 2021 installed on separate computers?
    • Did the Copy and Paste issue begin immediately after installing a Windows or Office update?
    • Does it occur in all workbooks, including a new blank workbook?
    • Does Copy and Paste work normally in other applications, such as Word or Notepad?
    • Have you already tried repairing Office, including both Quick Repair and Online Repair? Please refer to: Repair an Office application
    • Also, could you try uninstalling and reinstalling Office to see if it helps with your issue.

Several users have reported a similar Copy and Paste issue in Excel 2016 after installing KB5002914. You can refer to this discussion for more information:

Some affected users have reported that rolling back or uninstalling the recent update temporarily restored the Copy and Paste function. If the issue started immediately after KB5002914 was installed, you may consider trying this workaround, preferably with assistance from your IT administrator.

You can follow the steps outlined here: Go back to the previous version of Windows

The same behavior has not yet been clearly documented for Excel 2019 and Excel 2021. Since you are also experiencing it in those versions, please consider submitting a report from each affected installation through Excel > Help > Feedback > Report a Problem. Please include the full Excel version and build number, the date the issue started, and whether it appeared immediately after an update.

    User's image

In addition to submitting feedback through Excel, you may also report the issue through the Feedback Hub app in Windows.

    • Press Windows key + F or search for Feedback Hub in the Start menu.
    • Sign in with your Microsoft account.
    • Click Report a Problem
    • Add screenshots if possible.

For more details, please refer to: Send feedback to Microsoft with the Feedback Hub app

When you submit feedback there, your idea becomes visible to others who may be experiencing the same issue. If other users agree with your suggestion, they can upvote it, which helps highlight the need and increases its visibility

Please note that I’m a fellow forum user and am not directly involved in Microsoft’s product development or investigation process. However, your feedback is important, and submitting it through Excel > Help > Feedback > Report a Problem can help bring this issue to the attention of the appropriate product team.

Feel free to share the requested details when convenient. I look forward to hearing from you.
